Resident Spotlight: Irene Stone

Congratulations to Kelsey Krumsick, the 2026 recipient of the Kay Puckett Scholarship!

Kay was a resident of Sumner Place from 2006 until October 2012. Kay’s family shared during the scholarship ceremony that education was very important to Kay. Kay was a teacher and felt that no matter what happened in your life, your education was something no one could take away and was a means of freedom. Kay’s family also shared that they knew Sumner Place was where they wanted Kay be – it was always the people who made the difference. “The details of Mom’s life before her move to Sumner Place were unknown to most of her caregivers – they simply loved her where she was at that moment. Our hope is that the woman she was before and after her diagnosis is remembered and honored by this scholarship.”

Kelsey is currently in her second semester of nursing school at UNMC. She’s worked at Sumner Place a little over a year – starting first as a full-time CNA and transitioning to fewer hours once nursing school started. Kelsey comes into every shift with positivity for her team and love and dedication to quality care for our residents! She shows compassion and knows it’s the little things that bring joy to them every day – even if it is just crazy socks!

This is a full-time position with a rotating on-call schedule. Hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 am-4:30 pm. Daily job duties include routine upkeep of our equipment and grounds and answering work orders timely.
