๐ŸŒŸ Meet Jozette, Our Papillion Clinic 16-Week Student! ๐ŸŒŸ

Get to know a little more about her! ๐Ÿ’™

What college are you attending and what degree(s) are you pursuing?
๐Ÿ˜ฆ I am attending Creighton University and pursuing a degree in Occupational Therapy.

Why did you choose the Occupational Therapy (OT) field?
๐Ÿ˜ฆ My passion for patient advocacy drew me to occupational therapy. With a background in Healthcare Administration and Policy, I wanted a career that combined my interest in the healthcare system with direct, impactful patient care. Occupational Therapy offers the ideal blend of both while also providing a dynamic environment for me to grow as a provider.

What made you choose lymphedema therapy for your clinical rotation?
๐Ÿ˜ฆ After a brief introduction to lymphedema in the classroom, I chose to research the topic and selected the Lymphedema Clinic as my top clinical site to gain hands-on experience. I am interested in emerging OT practices and how they broaden the scope of our profession. Additionally, this placement has allowed me to explore my goal of eventually obtaining wound care certification.

Name one OT/lymphedema-related goal you have.
๐Ÿ˜ฆ Although I may not become a Certified Lymphedema Therapist, I am dedicated to advocating for those affected by the condition. My goal is to educate future patients and fellow providers by helping them understand lymphedema and navigate the referral process to receive expert care.

Where are you from?
๐Ÿ˜ฆ Honolulu, Hawaii ๐ŸŒบ

Name one personal goal you have in life.
๐Ÿ˜ฆ To travel the world while maintaining a healthy work-life balance. โœˆ๏ธ๐ŸŒŽ

Tell us two things about yourself.
๐Ÿ˜ฆ My name is a combination of my momโ€™s and dadโ€™s names, and I do not like pineapple on my pizza! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ•

Anything else you would like to share?
๐Ÿ˜ฆ I am thrilled to join such a welcoming team as I continue to grow my clinical skills and work toward becoming a provider!

Sharing a little behind-the-scenes of MLD at the upper venous angles ๐Ÿ’™

This is one of those areas where pace and technique really matter. We use slow, light, rhythmic movements to help encourage lymphatic flow and support the natural drainage pathways. Itโ€™s not about forceโ€”itโ€™s about precision, timing, and consistency.

Watching it in real time, it can almost look simple, but every hand placement and every movement is intentional to help guide fluid in the right direction and support the body where it needs it most โœจ

What college are you attending and what degree(s) are you pursuing?
๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ Iโ€™m attending Creighton University and pursuing my Doctorate in Occupational Therapy.

Why did you choose the Occupational Therapy (OT) field?
๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ I chose occupational therapy because I wanted a career that allows me to have a direct, meaningful impact on peopleโ€™s daily lives. I love helping individuals regain or build the skills they need to participate in the activities that matter most to them.

What made you choose lymphedema therapy for your clinical rotation?
๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ I was drawn to how hands-on the care is and the direct impact it has on peopleโ€™s function and quality of life. It also felt like a great opportunity to challenge myself and learn how to better advocate for a population that is often underrecognized and not well understood.

Name one OT/lymphedema-related goal you have.
๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ To develop the skills needed to guide and educate individuals with lymphedema while helping them navigate their condition with more confidence and success.

๐Ÿงฆโœจ Looking for an easier way to put on compression stockings?

The Slippie Gator, paired with its non-slip mat, can be a helpful tool for individuals who have arthritis, decreased hand strength, or difficulty with gripping. ๐Ÿ™Œ

The mat helps keep the device in place and provides a surface to push against, making it easier to slide the stocking into position with less strain on the hands and fingers. ๐Ÿ’™ Small adaptations like these can make a big difference in maintaining independence and staying consistent with compression wear!
