💚 Things No One Tells You After Someone Dies
Episode 5: Can I Bring My Children to a Funeral?

Many parents wonder whether children should attend a funeral.

The truth is, there's no one-size-fits-all answer.

Children often benefit from being included in the opportunity to say goodbye—especially when they understand what to expect and have a trusted adult there to support them.

Depending on their age, you can prepare them by explaining:
• What they will see
• What a funeral or visitation is
• That it's okay to feel sad, confused, or even have questions

Every child grieves differently, and every family is different. What's most important is choosing what feels right for your child and your family.

At Lincoln Family Funeral Care, we're always happy to help families navigate these conversations and create an environment where every generation feels supported.

💬 Did your children attend a funeral that helped them understand loss? We'd love to hear your experience, or share a question for a future episode.

💚 Things No One Tells You After Someone Dies
Episode 4: When Should I Call the Funeral Home?

One of the questions we hear most often is:

"When should I call the funeral home?"

The answer is simple:

📞 As soon as you're ready.

You don't need to have all the answers before making that call.

You don't need to know whether you're choosing burial or cremation.

You don't need to know service dates, locations, or even all of the details yet.

Our job is to walk alongside you through those decisions and help guide you through each step at a pace that feels right for your family.

Whether a death occurs unexpectedly, under hospice care, or you're simply beginning to think about pre-planning for the future, we're here to help.

At Lincoln Family Funeral Care, we believe no family should have to navigate these moments alone.

💬 Have a question you've always wondered about funeral planning or the process after a loss? Leave it in the comments or send us a message. Your question may become a future episode in our series.

💚 Things No One Tells You After Someone Dies
Episode 3: Can We Still Have a Service if We're Choosing Cremation?

One of the most common misconceptions we hear is:

"If we're cremating, we can't have a visitation or funeral service."

The truth is — you absolutely can.

Choosing cremation does not mean giving up the opportunity to gather, share memories, celebrate a life, or say goodbye in a meaningful way.

Families can choose:

✔️ A traditional visitation before cremation
✔️ A funeral service before cremation
✔️ A memorial service after cremation
✔️ A celebration of life at a later date
✔️ Private family gatherings
✔️ Unique and personalized tributes

There is no "right" way to honor a loved one.

The most meaningful services are the ones that reflect the life, personality, and wishes of the person being remembered.

At Lincoln Family Funeral Care, we're here to help families create services that feel personal, meaningful, and healing—regardless of whether they choose burial or cremation.

💬 Did this surprise you? What funeral questions would you like us to answer in a future episode?

💚 Things No One Tells You After Someone Dies Episode 2: How Many Death Certificates Do I Need?

One of the most common questions we hear from families is:

"How many death certificates should we order?"

While every situation is different, most families find they need between 5 and 10 certified copies, depending on the number of accounts, assets, and organizations involved.

You may need certified copies for:

✔️ Banks and financial institutions
✔️ Life insurance policies
✔️ Retirement accounts
✔️ Social Security benefits
✔️ Vehicle titles
✔️ Real estate transactions
✔️ Investment accounts
✔️ Veterans benefits

The good news? We help guide families through this process and can recommend an appropriate number based on your specific situation.

Ordering too few can create delays later, while ordering too many often means paying for copies you never use.

That's why we're here — to help make difficult decisions a little easier during a difficult time.

💬 Was this number higher or lower than you expected? Let us know in the comments or share a question you'd like us to answer in a future episode.

💚 Things No One Tells You After Someone Dies
Episode 1: What Should You Do First?

Losing someone you love is overwhelming. In those first moments, it's completely normal to feel unsure of what comes next.

Here are the first steps to take:

✔️ If the death occurs at home and was unexpected, call 911.

✔️ If the death was expected and hospice is involved, contact your hospice nurse first. They will guide you through the next steps.

✔️ Once the appropriate authorities or hospice have been notified, contact your funeral home. We will walk you through everything that follows—from bringing your loved one into our care to answering your questions and helping you make arrangements at your own pace.

You do not have to have all the answers before making that call. That's why we're here.

At Lincoln Family Funeral Care, our role is to help shoulder the burden so you can focus on your family.

💬 Is there a funeral planning question you've always wondered about? Leave it in the comments or send us a private message. It may become a future episode in this series.

💚 Meet the Heart Behind the Details – Dawn Stimple

At Lincoln Family Funeral Care, we know that the little things matter during life's most difficult moments. That's why we're grateful to have Dawn Stimple, our dedicated Family Service Director, guiding families with compassion every step of the way.

From helping families thoughtfully pre-plan their final wishes to providing ongoing follow-up and aftercare, Dawn is committed to making sure every family feels supported long after the service has ended. As our Office Manager, she also helps ensure everything behind the scenes runs smoothly with care and attention to detail.
