Quick 3pm check: are your shoulders currently trying to become earrings? If the day has been nonstop, take 30 seconds before jumping into the next thing. Unclench your jaw. Drop your shoulders. Take one slow breath. You don’t need to turn your whole day around. Sometimes a tiny reset is enough for the next five minutes.

Save this for your 3pm reset and visit elliementalhealth.com for more.

Taking a day off doesn’t erase the work you’ve put in. Neither does sleeping in, saying no to an extra workout, or admitting you’re mentally tired. When your brain is telling you that you should always be doing more, rest can feel surprisingly hard. But recovery isn’t something you have to earn after pushing yourself to the limit. Your mind needs downtime, too.

Back-to-school stress doesn’t always sound like, “I’m stressed.” Sometimes it looks like pulling away from friends, struggling with sleep, losing motivation, or complaining about not feeling well. One change doesn’t automatically mean something is wrong. But if you’re noticing shifts in how your child is acting, feeling, or getting through their day, it’s worth checking in. You don’t need the perfect words. Try something simple: “I’ve noticed things seem harder lately. How are you doing?” You can start with a conversation. And if they need more support, you don’t have to figure that out alone.

The ride home after the game doesn’t always need a recap. Sometimes your kid already knows about the missed shot, the bad pass, or the time they spent on the bench. What they may need more is a reminder that none of it changes who they are. Their worth isn’t measured in goals, points, playing time, wins, or losses. And when sports start feeling like more pressure than joy, it’s okay to check in on what’s going on beyond the game.

A day off doesn’t need a to-do list. You don’t have to clean the whole house, catch up on every errand, answer those emails, and somehow become a new person by Tuesday. Rest can look like sleeping in. Sitting outside. Watching something you’ve already seen five times. Doing absolutely nothing useful for a while. If you have time to slow down this Labor Day, you’re allowed to actually use it that way. Rest doesn’t need to be earned first.

Take the rest if you can.
