Latch

Latch (noun): The way a baby attaches to the breast to feed.

A good latch helps a baby effectively transfer milk while helping protect a mother’s ni***es from unnecessary discomfort.

And let’s be honest… sometimes those first attempts can feel a little unpredictable. Tiny hands are waving, heads are bobbing, mouths are searching, and many new moms find themselves asking:

"Wait… is this supposed to hurt?" 😅

Learning a comfortable latch can take time, patience, and support. Babies are learning a new skill, and mothers are learning alongside them.

Signs of a deeper, more effective latch can include:

🤍 More than just the ni**le in baby’s mouth
🤍 Rhythmic sucking and swallowing

A mother’s milk is a living, changing source of nourishment designed to support her baby’s growth.

Research has shown that human milk can vary based on many factors—including a baby’s needs, stage of lactation, and even biological differences related to the infant’s s*x.

Some studies have found that, on average, milk produced for male infants may contain slightly higher energy and fat content, while milk produced for female infants may have differences in certain nutrients, such as minerals that support growth and development.
