Every journey starts with someone saying “yes.”🚢

A yes to serving. A yes to using your skills in a new way. A yes to being part of something bigger than yourself.

Our volunteers make so much of this mission possible, and maybe your next chapter starts right here.

Could you be the next one to say yes? 👀

“Now it’s different, because I don’t have a tumor anymore. I want to go out even more.”

In 2018, Manandraibe began experiencing jaw pain, followed by swelling that continued to grow. Eventually, he had to give up his work as a mason and the soccer games he loved with his friends. As the eldest of five siblings, relying on his parents instead of helping support his family was especially difficult.

When he heard the had returned to Madagascar, he went to a screening in his town. Now, after surgery aboard the ship, Manandraibe is looking ahead to a new chapter, returning to work, rejoining his friends on the soccer field, and once again helping care for his family.

“I’ll go back to my job as a mason,” he said.

For Manandraibe, this is about more than leaving a tumor behind. It’s about getting back to the life he missed and the future he wants to build. 💙

“I’m really happy because now he can walk properly like everyone else.” 💙

For Rayan’s dad, Jimi, seeing his little boy walk with greater ease is a joy that’s hard to put into words.

At just 3 and a half years old, Rayan struggled to walk without falling or getting tired quickly. His parents tried to help him, but when they heard about another child who had received surgery on board the , a new possibility opened up for their family.

After surgery and around three months of recovery and rehabilitation, Rayan was walking straight, playing, and lighting up the rehab tent with his bright eyes and contagious smiles.

Now, he and his dad are heading home to their family to celebrate this new chapter with their community.

Sometimes, hope begins with one family sharing their story with another. And sometimes, it leads to little feet taking big steps toward a whole world of possibilities.

“A cheerful heart is good medicine.”
Proverbs 17:22 (NIV) 💙

A bicycle, a playful moment, and a reminder that joy can find us in unexpected places.

This Sunday, may we remember to make room for joy, wherever we are and whatever our days may hold. 🙏

It’s Saturday! ☀️💙

When you’re not on duty aboard, Saturdays are often for getting outside, spending time with friends, exploring the beauty of the country we serve, and making the most of the privilege of being here.

And sometimes, that means doing a handstand with the ship in the background! 🤸‍♀️🚢

Today on , we celebrate the skilled anesthesia professionals who make surgery possible and help ensure patients receive safe, compassionate care! 💙

At Mercy Ships, we are grateful for the anesthetists, educators, and partners who strengthen surgical systems, expand anesthesia training, and invest in the next generation of healthcare professionals across Africa.

“I am free! My back feels free!” 💙

For more than 30 years, Alexandre carried a 6.5 kg mass on his back. It started growing after a fall at work, and over time, even simple things became difficult. Sitting comfortably, leaning against a wall, or lying on his back to sleep were no longer easy.

A father of 10 and grandfather of 12, Alexandre knew he needed surgery, but he couldn’t afford it. For decades, he lived with the discomfort, adapting to the limitations it brought to his everyday life.

Until one day, everything changed.

Aboard the , Alexandre finally received the surgery he had waited decades for. Today, he can look ahead to the everyday moments he once struggled with, with a new sense of freedom.

His words say it all: “I am free!” 💙
