This September we celebrate 8 beautiful years of growth, healing, and heart within this sanctuary that is Essentially Balanced. đЎ
What began as a quiet vision in Ashley's heart â a space where people could come to heal, breathe, and feel truly cared for â has grown into a flourishing sanctuary rooted in compassion, intuitive touch, and the gentle yet powerful transformations that unfold when the body and spirit are met with genuine presence.
Each session, each clients' story, each moment of stillness shared within these walls has shaped who we are.
We honor the practitioners who bring their gifts forward, the clients who trust us with their wellbeing, and the spirit of balance that guides every modality we offer.

Today we introduce you to our founding member of Essentially Balanced Massage - Ashley Michelle Wood, LMT
âOfficially opened Essentially Balanced Massage on September 4, 2018â
"My journey into bodywork began long before I ever knew it would become my lifeâs work. I was thirteen, nursing a field hockey injury, when I received my first session of bodywork. One treatment â just one â shifted something profound in me. Not only did it help with my pain, it opened a door I didnât know existed. I remember thinking, âI want to help people feel like this.â That moment planted the seed that has guided me ever since.
Iâve been practicing massage therapy since 2007, and in 2018 I opened Essentially Balanced Massage â a space created with intention, softness, and deep respect for the healing process. My foundation came from the Central Maine School of Massage, but my education has never really stopped. Iâve taken one to three courses every year since graduating, following my curiosity into the worlds of fascia, self-healing work, energy work, postural alignment, sound healing, and the many ways the body speaks when we learn how to listen.
Before massage, I worked with the public, cared for seniors, and even worked the front desk at a massage center while I was in school. All of those experiences taught me how to hold space, how to listen, and how to meet people exactly where they are â skills that shape every session I offer.
My work is a blend of therapeutic bodywork and intuitive, energetic healing. Iâm deeply connected to slow, focused techniques like myofascial release, craniosacral therapy, and deep tissue work. I love the way fascia tells its story, the way energy shifts beneath the surface, and the way the body unwinds when given time and permission.
Over the years, Iâve trained in:
⢠Myofascial Release
⢠Deep Tissue & Swedish Massage
⢠Sports & Prenatal Massage
⢠Craniosacral Therapy
⢠Raindrop Technique
⢠Ear Candling
⢠Reiki (Master Level)
⢠Shamanic clearing, past life regression, polarity, inner child connection, energetic pattern release, and inner guidance work
⢠Sound Therapy
⢠Neurofascial Rebalancing
Iâm currently exploring how sound and frequency influence the fascial network â a passion that keeps expanding the more I learn. I also plan to continue my Craniosacral training into advanced levels.
What I Bring to the Table
My greatest strength is listening â not just to your words, but to the subtle language of your body. I work intuitively, letting your system guide the pace and direction of each session.
My goal is always to create a space where you can soften, release, and feel supported in whatever youâre moving through.
I feel especially aligned with clientsâ experiencing:
⢠Chronic pain
⢠Emotional overwhelm or transitions
⢠Pre and post surgical needs
⢠Neurological conditions (neuropathy, MS, fibromyalgia)
⢠Shoulder, neck, scalp, and spinal tension
⢠Injury recovery or prevention
⢠A deep desire to relax and forget the world for a while
When you leave my table, I want you to feel refreshed, brighter, more spacious â like youâve come home to yourself. I want you to feel heard, cared for, and supported. I offer tools and gentle âhomeworkâ when helpful, so you can continue nurturing your body and energy outside the treatment room.
đЎEssentially Balanced Massage is more than a practice to me. Itâs a sanctuary. A place where healing is honored, where your bodyâs wisdom is trusted, and where you are welcomed exactly as you are." - Ashley Michelle
