Keep going. You're not finished yet. Each moment, you're committing to the moment after that. We walk with you.

As Su***de Prevention and Recovery Awareness Month comes to a close, this is a reminder that your wounds will heal. We need to feel them and invite opportunities to understand the stories that caused them. We cannot do that alone.

There is light in darkness even when it seems impossible. Always.

“Every worthy act is difficult. Ascent is always difficult. Descent is easy and often slippery.” – Mahatma Gandhi

Recovery isn't measured by how quickly we move forward, but sometimes by the distance we've traveled and the strength we've found along the way.

Some days, progress means taking another step. Other days, it means finding the stamina to keep going when the road feels long.

During National Recovery Month, we recognize every step, every setback overcome, and every person finding their way forward.

Sometimes, the greatest progress is simply not giving up.

At Your Story Counseling, Angie’s Place, and Olimene Counseling Services, we believe caring for our communities extends beyond the work that happens inside our offices.

Supporting organizations and initiatives that promote mental health, reduce stigma, and help people find hope has always been important to us. This year, a small group from our team — The Next Chapter Crew — will be walking alongside American Foundation for Su***de Prevention AFSP Illinois Chapter in the Out of the Darkness Chicagoland Walk.

We’ll join survivors, families, friends, mental health professionals, and community members who have all been touched by su***de in different ways — coming together to remember, to raise awareness, and to remind people that they do not have to face difficult chapters alone.

There’s no fundraising ask from us here. We simply want to share something our team believes in, support the important work of su***de prevention, and perhaps encourage a few more conversations about a subject that too often remains in the shadows.

Different stories. A stronger tomorrow. And hopefully, many more chapters still to be written. 💜🩵

Su***de prevention isn’t about having the perfect words. It’s about noticing—and being willing to ask directly.

Sometimes the signs that someone is struggling are easy to miss. They may withdraw from people or activities they normally enjoy. They might talk about feeling like a burden, hopelessness, or having no reason to live. You might notice significant or unexpected changes in mood or behavior, giving away important possessions or getting affairs in order, or increased alcohol or substance use.

If something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to ask:

“Are you thinking about su***de?”

Asking someone directly about su***de does not put the idea in their head. Instead, it can open the door to an honest conversation and communicate something very important: I see you. I’m willing to hear what you’re going through. You don’t have to face this alone.

You don’t have to have all the answers, either.

Call, text, or chat 988 for support if you’re concerned about someone else—or if you need help yourself.

During National Su***de Prevention Month and National Recovery Month, we’re reminding our communities that sometimes helping begins with something very simple:

Notice. Ask. Listen. Stay connected.

Today is . This year's message: your reason is reason enough.

You don't have to be in crisis to call. Overwhelmed, stuck, grieving, just need to talk to someone who isn't going to judge you — that counts too.

Save the number. Share this post. You might be the reason it's in someone's phone when they need it.

📞 988 — call or text, 24/7, free, confidential.

We've been quiet for a while — not because we had nothing to say, but because we wanted to come back with intention, not noise.

Every story has chapters where the narrator goes quiet. This is us picking the pen back up.

This month is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month and National Recovery Month — two conversations close to everything we do here. We're going to spend September sharing real, useful information, not just awareness slogans. If you've been waiting for a sign to reach out, this is it.

📞 If you or someone you love is struggling: 988 (call or text), available 24/7.
