Respirable Crystalline Silica – A Hazard That Still Requires Attention
Many workers in construction, manufacturing, mining, countertop fabrication, and industrial operations continue to face exposure to respirable crystalline silica.
What makes silica particularly challenging is that harmful exposures are often invisible and may go unnoticed until serious health effects develop years later.
As an industrial hygiene and gas detection professional, I strongly believe that effective exposure prevention requires:
✅ Proper exposure assessment and air sampling
✅ Engineering controls and ventilation improvements
✅ Worker training and awareness
✅ Regular monitoring and documentation
✅ Selection of appropriate respiratory protection when required
Over the years, I have supported companies with workplace exposure evaluations, air monitoring programs, and practical solutions aimed at reducing occupational health risks.
Protecting workers is not only a regulatory requirement—it is an investment in long-term health, productivity, and operational excellence.
What challenges have you seen when managing silica exposure in the workplace?
