Last weekend was wonderful!

A special thanks to Dr. Courtnev Whittle for inviting me to be a vendor at her expo, Whole. Well. & Worthv. I made wonderful connections, supported local businesses, sold a couple of books. and let people know that am out here as a communitv phvsician to support them. And I must say--it felt good to be among some of my fellow Atlanta Top Docs.

I tried to hold my tongue, but I was no longer able to. 🥰
About 2 months ago, I got word that I can now write my name as "Carmen Echols, MD, FAAFP" as I am officially a Fellow of The American Academy of Family Physicians, an honorary designation showing "commitment to advancing health care, dedication to professional development through medical education, and focus on research."
A couple of well-meaning colleagues, aware of my dedication to community education and generational health, encouraged me to submit my Fellow application because they just *knew* I had done enough work during my tenure as an attending physician to qualify.
And they were correct. I had exceeded the qualifications.
And here we are.
Consider this as my official re-introduction as Carmen Echols, MD, FAAFP.
All Praises Due to Almighty God!

I am sharing the same caption I wrote 2 years ago today:

1) May your holiday be a reflective one......on how far we have come as 13 British colonies where freedom was restricted for so manv inhabitants of this land,..and on how far we still have to go as 50 "united" states where liberties are being retracted and/or restricted on a regular basis, as we are seeing in the news-local and national-as of late.

2) Enjoy fellowshipping with family and friends, and eat some slamming barbecue.

Are you or a loved one living with Alzheimer's?
You are in for a treat!
June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness month. My aunts, Dr. Echols Celina (university professor) and Dr. Quenyatta Echols-Williams (Internal Medicine physician), have partnered with Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS, to organize a community education initiative to have open dialogue about Alzheimer's and other types of dementia and a safe space to support families with loved ones diagnosed with this condition.

The event is taking place in-person in Columbia, MS, but there are plans to have it live streamed to increase nationwide access to the event.

Information will be updated on this post and also on Chatting with Moms. Stay tuned!

I truly love my online and in-person community.
Thanks for checking in on me.
No--I am not getting fed up with medicine (but many of you all know I am frustrated with bureaucratic change in medicine I have seen over past decade and a half, usually not favorable to patient care).
Burned out? Not feeling like that this week--and I have had weeks...but you do get quickly humbled when reminded--because, as a woman of faith, you KNOW this--death is the one thing promised to us all.
So it felt good to go home after work, get all gussied up, and attend the 100 Black Men of DeKalb County gala with my husband. 🥰
