BVD is one of the most commonly missed diagnoses in adults. Symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, and eye strain often get blamed on stress, screen time, or aging, while the real root cause, misaligned eye teaming, goes unaddressed. A standard eye exam usually isn't designed to catch it.

What is Binocular Vision Dysfunction?

BVD happens when your two eyes don't perfectly align and work together as a team. Even a tiny misalignment forces your brain to work overtime to fuse two images into one, leading to headaches, dizziness, and fatigue that traditional eye exams often overlook.

The good news? BVD is treatable, and you don't have to live with the symptoms. Schedule an appointment at Neurovision Rehab Center of PA today!

I Finally Had Answers.

"I've been dealing with dizziness, feeling off-balance, anxiety, and occasional panic attacks for years. Simple things like being in stores or crowded places would overwhelm me. I constantly felt on edge, had frequent tension headaches, and was completely drained after work. There were times my anxiety got so bad that I truly believed something was seriously wrong with me.

I went to my doctor and was prescribed anxiety medication, which helped take the edge off but never fully fixed the problem. I made big lifestyle changes, cutting out caffeine, exercising, and eating clean, and while that helped for a while, the symptoms eventually came back. The dizziness, brain fog, and overwhelming feeling returned, and I felt stuck again.

Out of desperation, I started researching and came across binocular vision dysfunction (BVD). After taking an online questionnaire, it strongly suggested I might have it. I scheduled an appointment at Kissel Eye Care, hoping this would finally be the answer I had been searching for.

From the moment I walked in, Kissel Eye Care has been nothing but helpful. The staff were incredibly kind, patient, and very accommodating, which immediately put me at ease during such a stressful time. What meant the most to me was my eye doctor, Dr. Collins. She was extremely helpful and truly listened to everything I had to say. Every symptom, every concern, every detail. I never once felt rushed or dismissed.

After feeling misunderstood for so long, that alone made such a huge difference. I was diagnosed with BVD, and it turns out my contact prescription had been off. One eye was too strong while the other wasn't correct. Fixing that alone made a noticeable difference and gave me hope for the first time in a long time. I was then fitted for prism lenses, and I'll be honest, this journey has not been easy.

Adjusting to them can feel like a roller coaster, and mentally it has been one of the hardest things I've gone through. When your nervous system is already so heightened, the stress and anxiety can make everything feel even more intense. But patience is everything.

About five weeks in, I'm slowly starting to calm my nervous system and get pieces of my life back. Working, driving, and everyday routines are beginning to feel more manageable. Adjusting to prism lenses isn't an immediate fix, but the change is real. My brain is still learning to process the symptoms, but the progress is encouraging. I'm not fully recovered yet, but I'm getting there, and that means everything.

I truly can't recommend Kissel Eye Care enough. They gave me answers when I was desperate, but more importantly, they gave me hope. If you're going through something similar, don't give up. This process can be hard, but with the right care, support, and time, it does get better."

If you're experiencing dizziness, headaches, anxiety, brain fog, or unexplained vision symptoms, you don't have to navigate it alone. Contact Kissel Eye Care to learn whether Binocular Vision Dysfunction may be contributing to your symptoms.

The Brain-Eye Connection After a Concussion 🧠👀

If you followed along last week, we looked at how an inner ear weakness can tilt your internal balance scale. Well, this week I want to discuss concussions—and how one of the most common, disruptive symptoms aside from a headache is actually dizziness and unsteadiness.

When someone experiences an injury to their head or a sudden whiplash movement, the inner ear itself might be completely fine, but the neural pathways that coordinate your vision can get knocked out of sync.

Instead of your eyes gliding smoothly when you look around, a concussion can cause a subtle coordination glitch:

🎯 Normal Coordinated Vision: Your brain and eyes work in perfect harmony. When you turn your head to read a sign or look at a shelf, your eyes lock onto the target instantly and effortlessly.

🔄 The Post-Concussion "Catch-Up": After a head injury, that synchronization can be disrupted. If you turn your head quickly to look at a shelf, watch traffic go by, or change directions while walking, your eyes might jump or skip slightly instead of moving smoothly. Your brain registers a split-second visual mismatch, which it misinterprets as movement—instantly triggering a wave of dizziness, brain fog, or a headache.

Because your brain has to work in overdrive just to keep your vision steady, it often leaves you feeling completely wiped out and off-balance as the day goes on.

The good news? The brain is incredibly adaptable. Specialized visual-vestibular physical therapy focuses on targeted vision and gaze exercises to gently retrain those specific neural pathways, helping your eyes coordinate effortlessly again and clearing up that persistent dizziness.

Navigating recovery after a head injury can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to figure it out alone.

If you or someone you know is struggling with unsteadiness or feel like your eyes can’t keep up after a head injury, please feel free to send me a private message. I am always happy to answer your questions and help you find the right next step.

How your eyes work together matters.
Your eyes are meant to function as a team, sending one clear image to the brain. When they don’t, it can cause discomfort, dizziness, and fatigue — common signs of BVD.
🧠 If your eyes feel out of sync, it’s worth getting checked.

Is BVD the same as needing glasses?
Not always. Binocular Vision Dysfunction is a coordination issue — not just blurry vision. Glasses alone may not solve headaches, eye strain, or double vision.
