On September 11, 2001, as first responders rushed toward unimaginable devastation, hundreds of specially trained dogs and their handlers answered the call, too.
Search and rescue dogs worked tirelessly to locate survivors and assist recovery efforts. Other dogs provided something equally important in the days that followed — comfort to first responders, families, and communities facing tremendous grief.
They worked beside their handlers through exhausting and heartbreaking conditions, demonstrating the extraordinary bond between humans and dogs and the incredible things that partnership can accomplish.
Today, we remember the lives lost, honor those who served, and recognize the four-legged heroes who worked beside them. 🇺🇸🐾
We will never forget.
