Happy Nurses Week! ❤️(May 6th-12th)

This week, we proudly celebrate the incredible nurses that work alongside our department!

Your skill, precision, and compassion are at the core of the care we provide—whether in the clinic, the OR, or at the bedside. The work you do in caring for patients with complex ear, nose, and throat conditions truly changes lives.

Thank you for your dedication, your expertise, and the way you show up for our patients and each other every single day.

We are grateful for you, not just this week, but always!!

Last week, the UAMS Department of Otolaryngology hosted “The Doctor Is In… Otolaryngology” with Dr. Mauricio Moreno in partnership with the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Envoys. Community members had the opportunity to hear directly about head and neck cancer care and the full journey our patients experience at UAMS.

Dr. Moreno shared how care goes far beyond the operating room. It’s about walking with patients from diagnosis through treatment and into long-term survivorship. That means coordinated, team-based care, access to supportive services, and a commitment to relationships that don’t end when surgery is over.

One of the most meaningful moments came from his patient, head and neck cancer survivor and advocate Robert Carpenter, who shared his personal story alongside his wife, Julie. His perspective was a powerful reminder of why this work matters and the difference compassionate, high-quality care makes.

This is what we strive for every day at UAMS. Not just excellent clinical outcomes, but a better experience for our patients and families. Meeting people where they are, supporting them fully, and continuing to raise the standard of care across Arkansas.
