We are so thankful for Sam and Richard, who oversee our Otolaryngology residency and fellowship programs and do so much behind the scenes to keep our programs running smoothly.

From supporting our residents and fellows to coordinating the countless details that go into a successful GME program, their dedication, organization, and commitment make a tremendous impact on our department and the physicians we are training.

Things You "Oto" Know... your child's constant sniffles might be trying to tell you something. 👂👃

Class is back in session, and so is our brand-new series, Things You "Oto" Know! 📚✨

Today, Dr. Abby Nolder, pediatric otolaryngologist and UAMS Vice Chair of Pediatric Services and Education, joined KARK's Arkansas Style to talk all things back-to-school ENT health. From recurring ear infections and enlarged tonsils to chronic congestion, snoring, mouth breathing, hearing concerns, and sore throats, she shared some of the signs families shouldn't ignore.

The good news? Not every child needs surgery. Sometimes the right medication or a simple procedure can make a world of difference, helping kids sleep better, hear better, breathe easier, and get back to doing what they do best... being kids. ❤️

At UAMS ENT, we know that improving a child's health often improves the entire family's quality of life. And that's exactly why we're passionate about sharing these conversations with our community.

🎬 This is just the first installment of our monthly "Things You Oto Know" series, where you'll hear from different UAMS ENT faculty as they answer common questions and share practical tips about ear, nose, throat, head, and neck health.

A busy day at UAMS Otolaryngology, and just the way we like it. 👂🏥

Our morning started with an outstanding educational session from the Arkansas Children’s Hospital ENT APRN team, who shared their expertise on tracheostomy care and procedures with our residents and new pediatric fellow, Dr.Jacob Boyd. Thank you for helping us continue to strengthen multidisciplinary patient care.

Later, Department Chair Dr. Gresham Richter visited our UAMS Health ENT Clinic in Conway, where he spent time with Dr. Fraley, Dr. Kirsch, and Dr. Kompelli, our new Physician Relations Liaison, Coby Howell, discussing opportunities for growth, collaboration, and the future of our outreach clinics.

Of course, no ENT day is complete without a little history lesson. Dr. Kirsch gave us a hands-on look at the classic head mirror, reminding us how generations of otolaryngologists practiced before fiberoptic scopes and modern technology. Coby was a great sport volunteering as the patient!

The day wrapped up with lunch and conversation between our clinic team, physicians, and leadership. Before leaving, one message written on the Conway clinic whiteboard caught our attention:

“Grace, Kindness, Compassion Make A Great Team.”

Those four words are a simple reminder of the culture we strive to build every day. When we lead with grace, treat one another with kindness, and care for our patients with compassion, everyone benefits.

Days like today remind us that great medicine is about more than procedures. It’s about people.

⭐ Congratulations to Jerrod Gray, Department Administrator for the UAMS Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, on being named a June 2026 “I See You Being a STAR” nominee!

Jerrod was recognized for consistently going above and beyond to help others, making team members feel welcome across both the clinical and administrative sides of ENT, and working hard to keep the department on track. Whether someone needs an answer, assistance or a person willing to help tackle the next challenge, Jerrod is always ready.
