💆🏽♀️ What Is TMJ Massage & Why Would Someone Need It?
Did you know that headaches, jaw pain, ear pain, neck tension, and even facial discomfort can sometimes be connected to the muscles of the jaw?
TMJ stands for Temporomandibular Joint — the joint that connects your jaw to your skull. When the muscles surrounding this area become tight, overworked, or inflamed, it can lead to discomfort and restricted movement.
Some common signs of TMJ dysfunction include:
✔️ Jaw pain or tenderness
✔️ Clicking or popping when opening the mouth
✔️ Frequent headaches
✔️ Ear pain or pressure
✔️ Neck and shoulder tension
✔️ Teeth grinding or clenching
✔️ Difficulty opening the mouth fully
So why would someone come to a Massage Therapist for TMJ Massage?
Because the muscles of the face, jaw, head, neck, and shoulders all work together. When those muscles become tight, they can contribute to pain and tension patterns throughout the body.
TMJ Massage focuses on helping to:
✅ Reduce muscle tension in the jaw and face
✅ Improve range of motion
✅ Relieve headaches caused by muscle tightness
✅ Reduce neck and shoulder tension
✅ Promote relaxation and stress relief
✅ Improve overall comfort and function
Many people don’t realize that stress often shows up in the jaw. If you’ve ever caught yourself clenching your teeth during the day or waking up with a sore jaw, your muscles may be working overtime.
As a Massage Therapist, I love helping clients find the root of their discomfort and providing techniques that support relaxation, mobility, and overall wellness.
Your body has a way of telling you when something needs attention. Sometimes that tension isn’t just in your back—it may be right in your jaw.
