Meet Mitchell Cullins , Director of Utilization Review!

Mitchell has been part of the Methodist Family for 11.5 years, serving in several roles throughout his career with MFH. He began as a Behavioral Instructor, later served as a Residential Assessment and Referral Counselor, and has spent the past 6.5 years as Director of Utilization Review.

In his current role, Mitchell oversees Utilization Review operations for all Methodist Family Health inpatient programs. He leads teams that secure insurance authorizations, review clinical documentation for medical necessity, and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and clinical staff to help ensure patients receive the appropriate services and care.

For Mitchell, the most meaningful part of his work is advocating for the children and families MFH serves.

“The most meaningful aspect of my job is advocating for the children and families we serve. Knowing our efforts help children receive the support they need to heal and thrive makes this work incredibly rewarding.“

We’re grateful for Mitchell’s 11.5 years of service and his continued dedication to helping children and families access the care and support they need.

On Grief Awareness Day, we're reminded of the importance of creating spaces where healing can begin. Through our Kaleidoscope Grief Center and Camp Healing Hearts, Methodist Family Health helps provide children and families who have experienced the loss of a loved one with connection, support and hope.

No one should have to navigate grief alone. Every shared story, quiet moment and new friendship is a reminder that healing happens together. We are so grateful for the families who trust us to walk alongside them on their grief journey and the volunteers who help our peer support groups and free grief camp.

Many parents and caregivers wonder when to seek mental or behavioral health support for their child. If a child is experiencing ongoing emotional distress, significant behavioral changes, withdrawal, anxiety, or difficulty functioning at home or school, professional support may help.

Seeking help isn't a sign of failure. It's a proactive step toward understanding your child's needs and connecting them with appropriate care and resources.

Our team is delighted to be attending the Arkansas Council for Behavioral Health Annual Behavioral Health Institute Conference!

It's inspiring to connect with fellow professionals and share ideas that help strengthen the care we provide to our communities. Most of all, it's wonderful to see so many of our referral partners and reconnect with the people who help make a difference in the lives of those we serve. We’re grateful for these partnerships and look forward to continuing to work together to improve access to quality behavioral health care.

Special kudos to our own Wesley Morgan for serving on this year's BHI committee!

Some people perform a job well, and then there are individuals who transform lives through their work. Emily Ann Gautney is undeniably the latter.

Today, she received the well-deserved honor of being named the Arkansas Council for Behavioral Health's Practitioner of the Year Award.🎉

As a Peer Recovery Support Specialist at Methodist Family Health’s Arkansas CARES, one of Emily's greatest strengths is the authenticity she brings through her lived experience. She openly shares her recovery journey with honesty, humility, and purpose, giving our clients something many have never experienced before - someone who truly understands their struggles because she has walked a similar path. Her story serves as tangible proof that recovery is possible, inspiring women to persevere even when the work feels overwhelming.

Join us in congratulating Emily on this award and thanking her for serving as a role model for our clients and colleagues!

☀️💦 One More Splash of Summer Fun!
As summer winds down, let’s remember that play is more than just fun—it can be an important part of supporting children’s mental health.

For kids navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or other mental health challenges, play creates space to express emotions, build confidence, connect with others, and experience joy. And sometimes, that looks like splashing in the water, chasing bubbles, laughing with friends, or simply enjoying a carefree summer afternoon.

Water play can offer children opportunities to explore, be creative, practice social skills, and release stress—all while making memories and enjoying the moment.
As we say goodbye to summer, let’s hold onto the simple things that help kids feel safe, connected, and happy.

Here’s to one more splash, one more laugh, and plenty of room to just be a kid.

We hope Stan had the happiest birthday yesterday! 🎉🐾

We’re celebrating one very special member of our pet therapy team. Stan brings so much comfort, joy and plenty of smiles to the kids at Methodist Children’s Behavioral Hospital in Maumelle, and we’re so grateful for every tail wag and moment of love he shares.

Here’s to plenty of belly rubs, treats and attention for our very good boy, Stan! 💙🐶

🎒📚 Back to school means new opportunities to support student well-being.

As we head into this school year, we celebrate the people who help make mental health support part of the school experience - the counselors!

Whether the school counselor is an MFH staff person working in one of our school-based programs or a local school district's personnel, we appreciate all the ways they show up every day to listen, encourage, and help students navigate life’s challenges. Different roles, one shared mission: helping students feel supported, connected, and ready to learn.

1. Kimberly James, LCSW, and Gerri Sedman, QBHP, MFH school-based therapists at University Heights Elementary
2. Hannah Yarbrough, LMSW, MFH school-based therapist at Fox Meadow Elementary
3. Leann Robertson, counselor at Cabot Middle South with MFH Business Development team members Erin Goyne and Robin Rudkins

Here’s to a school year filled with growth and connection!
