Happy World Breastfeeding Week!

Lactation is a messy, beautiful collaboration between two souls figuring it out. & Real support isn’t just about staring at latches and ounce tracking. It’s sitting with you while you try to figure things out. It’s a postpartum doula handling the laundry and handing you something warm to drink so you can actually breathe.

It’s having an IBCLC (Sondra Rodocker) who looks at the whole picture... your healing, your mental health, and your baby—and tells you the truth: you're doing great, and you aren't alone.

Because feeding your baby starts with actually taking care of you.

This might be the hardest thing you have ever done.

Labor doesn't ask for politeness, and it doesn't ask you to hold it together. It asks you to completely unravel and rebuild yourself in the span of a few hours. It will stretch you past your limits, test every ounce of your mental and physical stamina, and demand your absolute all.

When you reach the edge of what you think you can do remember this: The strength to move straight through it is already within you.

To anyone currently preparing to meet their baby: You are far stronger than you know, and on the other side of that fire is the very first breath of your baby's life.

When people ask us why we do this work here in Arkansas, our minds don’t always go to statistics or policy reports.
Sometimes it goes to a specific room, in the middle of the night, when the lights are low and a mom is looking at us like she doesn't think she has anything left in the tank.

That’s where the reality of maternal healthcare in our state hits hardest. You see the gaps firsthand. You see how far apart hospitals are in our rural stretches, how stretched our local providers are, and how easy it is for a family to feel completely invisible in a clinical setting.

You can’t fix a broken system with a brochure. You fix it by sitting on the edge of a hospital bed at 3:00 AM. You fix it by helping a dad know how to support his partner when things get intense. You fix it by listening—really listening—when someone says what they're afraid of, and helping them find their voice before they walk into the delivery room.

That is why we show up. We aren't going to fix Arkansas maternity care all at once, and that's okay. We do it right here, in the trenches, wrapping our arms around our communities one doula and one family at a time.
You are not a chart number. You are a human being, and your story matters. 🤍

Nothing hits quite like a victory meal with the team after a birth. There is something so special about debriefing and refueling with fellow doulas who just get it! So grateful for this community.
