At Reining Free Ranch, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to grow, build strength, discover new possibilities, and experience the incredible connection that happens when therapy meets the movement of a horse.

Every day, our horses help us create meaningful opportunities for children with disabilities and their families. But behind every therapy session is a team of incredible horses who need exceptional care, a dedicated therapist, and a program committed to providing the highest quality of care possible.

As we look toward the new year, we’re facing another change in Medicaid reimbursement rates in January. Reimbursement already falls short of the actual cost of providing care, and we’re working hard to sustain our program, care for our horses, and continue serving the families who depend on us. 💛

🐴❤️ STERLING THE MAGNIFICENT ❤️🐴

When Sterling came to Reining Free Ranch in January 2025 at 23 years young, he had a lot of work ahead of him. He needed to gain weight, had dental issues, pain, and carried so much anxiety.

And then, in August, we almost lost him.

But Sterling wasn’t finished writing his story. ❤️

Look at him now.

Yesterday, this incredible old soul proudly carried riders through the Sterling Ranch community parade—and he was AMAZING. Calm. Steady. Faithful. Just being Sterling. 🥹

We couldn’t be more proud of this boy and the incredible comeback he has made.

Sterling reminds us that healing takes time, that second chances matter, and that sometimes the strongest hearts belong to the horses who have already walked through the hardest chapters.

At 24 years young, he continues to serve, love, and carry others faithfully.

What a gift it is to watch him thrive. ❤️

Sterling the Magnificent ❤️

Sterling came home to Reining Free Ranch in January 2025 at 23 years young. He arrived with a lot of life behind him and a few things that needed our attention. He needed to gain weight, had dental issues, pain, and carried a lot of anxiety.

Then, in August 2025, we almost lost him.

But Sterling had other plans. ❤️

What a turnaround this magnificent horse has made. Yesterday, Sterling proudly participated in the community parade through Sterling Ranch, and he absolutely amazed us. Watching him walk through the parade, carrying riders faithfully and confidently, was a moment we won’t soon forget.

Now at 24 years young, Sterling continues to show us what an enduring spirit looks like. He has taught us that healing takes time, that second chances are precious, and that sometimes the greatest comeback stories have four legs.

We couldn’t be more proud of our boy. ❤️

Sterling the Magnificent, you are loved, you are valued, and you are exactly where you are meant to be.

Here’s to many more miles, many more riders, and many more adventures with our incredible old soul. 🐴❤️

There is one resident at the barn I never expected to become protective of… our cat’s faced spider.

Now, if you know me, you know bugs and spiders are not exactly my favorite things. In fact, they usually send me running the other direction. But somehow this little spider has won me over.

She quietly hangs her web near the entrance of our feed room, never asking for attention or praise. She patiently catches the flies that bother the horses, doing the job God created her to do. She lives peacefully among the stalls, reminding me that even the smallest creatures have a purpose.

It made me think about how often we decide something has little value simply because we don’t understand it or because it makes us uncomfortable. Yet God intentionally created every living thing. Nothing in His creation is accidental.

So our little barn spider gets to stay. She faithfully tends her web, helps keep the flies under control, and quietly reminds me that every part of God’s creation has a place in His masterpiece, even the ones that make me shiver.

Sometimes God teaches the biggest lessons through the smallest creatures. So for today, instead of overlooking the ordinary or the unwanted, we can pause and marvel at the wisdom of the Creator who made it all.

There is something special about watching a child learn to care for something smaller than themselves.

This week, Mama Kitty decided it was time to move her kittens from the tack room back into the garage. We searched and searched but couldn’t find where she had tucked them away.

So I gave Owen a mission.

About ten minutes later, he came running back with the biggest smile on his face, gently holding one of the kittens.

“Mom! I found them!”

Since the day they were born, Owen has taken his job as their protector very seriously. He checks on them throughout the day, makes sure every kitten is accounted for, gently tucks them in at night, and reminds us if one seems to be missing. His little heart naturally leans toward caring for those who are small, vulnerable, and dependent.

As parents, we often wonder if our children are paying attention to what we do. But moments like these remind me that they are. They learn compassion by watching compassion. They learn responsibility by being trusted with responsibility. They learn love by receiving love.

It also reminds me of our Heavenly Father.

Just as Owen searches until every kitten is found, our Good Shepherd never stops searching for His children. We are never forgotten, never overlooked, and never too hidden to be found. He knows where we are, He calls us by name, and He rejoices when we come home.

At Reining Free Ranch, we pray that every child who walks through our gates experiences that same kind of love, a place where they are seen, valued, cared for, and reminded that they matter deeply to both us and to God.

Sometimes the greatest lessons in life don’t come from grand adventures. Sometimes they come from a little boy, a handful of kittens, and a heart that simply wants to make sure everyone is safe.

🐔 Meet Pig. 🐷

Yes… she’s a chicken named Pig.

She earned her name because she has never been content staying in the chicken coop. She’d much rather squeeze through the fence and spend her days hanging out with the pigs. It’s just who she is.

Yesterday, though, her adventurous spirit got her into trouble.

Somehow Pig managed to flip a water bowl over on top of herself. In the 100 degree heat, she couldn’t get free. By the time we found her, she was suffering from heat exhaustion.

We quickly jumped into action with a cool bath, electrolyte water, and a fan. Little by little, she began to perk up. We’re so grateful that she pulled through.

As we watched Pig recover, we couldn’t help but think about how often life can leave us trapped, exhausted, and unable to free ourselves. Sometimes our own choices lead us there. Other times, circumstances beyond our control do. Either way, we all find ourselves in moments when we need someone to come looking for us.

That’s the heart of the Gospel.

God doesn’t leave us where we’re stuck. He sees us, comes to us in our weakness, refreshes our weary souls, and offers living water that truly satisfies.

At Reining Free Ranch, we’re reminded every day that healing often begins when someone notices, stops what they’re doing, and chooses to care. Whether it’s a child, a family, a volunteer, or even a little chicken named Pig, compassion has a way of bringing hope back to life.

🌧️ Join Us in Praying for Rain 🌧️

This week we’re asking our Reining Free Ranch family to join us in praying for much needed rain. Our pastures, the local farmers who grow our hay, and all of the animals that depend on them are feeling the effects of this dry season.

The lack of rain, combined with rising fuel costs, has caused hay prices to increase significantly. As a therapy ranch, these added expenses directly impact our ability to care for the horses that faithfully serve children and families every day.

If you feel led, we’d be so grateful for your prayers and if you’re able, your financial support to help provide hay for our herd. Every gift, no matter the size, helps keep our therapy horses healthy and allows us to continue providing hope and healing through equine assisted physical therapy.

🌱 A Small Harvest, A Big Reminder 🌱

Today we picked a small harvest from our garden. It wasn’t overflowing with baskets of vegetables or enough to feed a crowd but it was enough to remind me of something important.

So often we celebrate the big harvests in life: the answered prayers, the milestones, the breakthroughs. But God is also present in the small beginnings, the quiet growth, and the little blessings we almost overlook.

Every tomato, cucumber, flower, and sprout began as a tiny seed hidden beneath the soil. For a while, nothing seemed to be happening. Yet beneath the surface, God was growing something beautiful.

Maybe you’re in a season where your “harvest” feels small. Maybe you’re waiting for healing, restoration, provision, or hope. Don’t despise the small beginnings. The same God who brings a tiny seed to harvest is faithfully working in your life even when you can’t yet see it.

Today I’m thankful for this little harvest, not because of how much it produced, but because it points me back to the One who is always faithful.

“Let us not grow weary of doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” — Galatians 6:9
