For Bob, life is about making memories with the people he loves and staying active in the things he enjoys. When prostate cancer became part of his story, he wanted to understand his treatment options and how they could fit into the life he wanted to keep living.

After discussing his options with Dr. Zack Piotrowski at Urology Associates, Bob chose a Barrigel™ re**al spacer before beginning radiation therapy at Anova Cancer Care. While radiation therapy can be highly effective for treating prostate cancer, the re**um sits directly behind the prostate, which means healthy re**al tissue can also be exposed to radiation. Barrigel™ helps create a protective space between the prostate and re**um during treatment.

Learn more about Bob’s experience with Barrigel and his prostate cancer treatment journey.

When should men talk to their doctor about PSA screening?

Urology Associates and Anova Cancer Care recommend that men ages 50–69 discuss PSA testing with their physician. Men ages 40–45 who are at higher risk for prostate cancer—including those with a family history or African American men—should consider discussing screening with a urologist even earlier.

A PSA blood test can help identify changes that may warrant further evaluation, sometimes before prostate cancer causes noticeable symptoms. Screening recommendations can vary based on your individual risk factors, so talking with your doctor is an important first step. Learn more here: https://www.denverurology.com/urology/psa-testing/

Early prostate cancer usually has no symptoms at all. When symptoms do show up, they can include changes in urination, blood in the urine or semen, or ongoing pelvic discomfort.

Most of the time those symptoms come from something other than cancer, such as an enlarged prostate or an infection. That is still worth knowing. Do not wait for symptoms to think about screening, and do not ignore changes when they appear. Learn more here:

Prostate cancer treatment options are based on the size and aggressiveness of the cancer.

Do you know the risk factors for prostate cancer? While any man can develop prostate cancer, certain factors can increase your risk.

-Race & Ethnicity: Prostate cancer is about 70% more common in Black men than in White men. It occurs less often in Asian American and Hispanic men.
-Family History: Having a father, brother or grandfather with prostate cancer can increase your risk. A family history of breast or ovarian cancer can also raise your risk.
-Weight: Being overweight in your 50s or later is linked to a greater chance of developing advanced prostate cancer. Maintaining a healthy weight may help lower your risk.

Knowing your risk is an important part of prostate health. Talk with your doctor about PSA screening and whether it may be right for you. https://www.denverurology.com/urology/psa-testing/
