One of the most frequent questions I get asked is: 'Do I have to take my hearing aids out for the TSA scanner?' 🤔

The short answer? Nope! You generally do not need to remove your hearing aids to go through security.

However, some of our patients prefer to head through security with their “ears” off. If you have mild hearing loss and feel more comfortable removing your devices for the scanners, just make sure your storage case is handy in your carry-on. Keeping them tucked away in their proper home ensures they stay safe and sound while you navigate the terminal!

If your hearing aids are making unusual noises, working intermittently, or experiencing battery performance issues, it may be time to have us look them over! Some issues can be resolved easily in the office, while others may require us to send them in to the manufacturer.

Hearing aids typically last 4–5 years. As technology advances, newer options may provide better clarity and reliability. Our goal is to help you weigh your options and find the best solution for your needs.

A patient told me something that really clicked. He said, “My hearing aids were acting up, and I didn’t have time to bring them in right away. I went without them for 3 days. I can’t believe how exhausted I was at the end of each day!”

👆 This is a perfect example of what happens when your brain has to work overtime to fill in the gaps of speech.

When you are missing pieces of sound, your brain tries to “auto-correct” everything. That extra effort adds up quickly, even if you do not realize it is happening. 😟

Once his hearing aids were repaired (which we did right here in the office!), he noticed he actually has energy left at the end of the day now!

Those kinds of wins go beyond just hearing better. They impact how you feel day to day. 💗

If you find yourself feeling unusually drained after conversations or meetings, it might not just be a long day. It could be your brain working harder than it needs to, and we can help with that.

Tinnitus can feel overwhelming, but managing it has evolved far beyond simply ignoring the sound. At Columbine Hearing Care, we focus on modern, active approaches to tinnitus care.

After a complete auditory evaluation in our clinic, we guide our patients through the latest treatment options.

For many, the most effective solution is found in the technology you may already be wearing. Did you know that the latest hearing aids are actually sophisticated, active tinnitus management devices? 🦻

Modern hearing aids do much more than just improve your hearing; they feature built-in sound generators designed specifically to provide relief. By seamlessly blending customizable sound therapies into your daily listening, these devices reduce the contrast between the quiet of your environment and the noise in your ears, giving your brain a much-needed break from the ringing. 😌

Have you ever been told your hearing test is normal, but you still struggle to understand speech, especially in noise? This is sometimes referred to as “hidden hearing loss.” 🙁

In these cases, the ears may be detecting sound just fine, but the difficulty occurs once sound reaches the brain. 🧠 Challenges with auditory processing can make conversations feel exhausting or unclear, even with normal hearing thresholds.

Additional testing, such as speech-in-noise evaluations, can help uncover these concerns. If you’re struggling despite a “normal” hearing test, further assessment with us may provide more answers!

Research has shown a strong connection between untreated hearing loss and cognitive decline. When sounds reach the brain in a distorted way, the brain must work harder to process information, which may contribute to long-term changes in brain function. 👂🧠

Studies suggest that hearing aids and auditory rehabilitation may help slow cognitive decline linked to hearing loss. Supporting hearing health is one way to support brain health.

Keeping hearing sharp helps keep the brain engaged. 😊

Hi - I’m Rose, and I’m the Patient Care Coordinator at Columbine Hearing Care! 👋

A little behind-the-scenes of my day this time of year:

→ making sure everything is ready for appointments 🗂
→ helping things run smoothly throughout the day ⏱
→ supporting patients in the office when they have questions or concerns 💬

My favorite part of the job? Helping people feel comfortable and making things less overwhelming.

Especially in the summer, when life gets busier, and schedules fill up fast ☀️

I’m here to make things feel simple, organized, and a little less stressful from the very beginning. 💜

So here’s the thing: 👇

Every patient’s hearing needs and sound preferences are unique. It’s not uncommon for people to notice differences in clarity or comfort between hearing aid brands.

Sometimes the best way to know what works for you is through a trial or a second opinion. Exploring different options can help ensure your hearing aids truly match your lifestyle and listening environments.

The right fit goes beyond just the device! 😀 We take a lot of pride in our counseling and hands-on experience with hearing health. We can help!

PSA: Gene Therapy in Hearing Care 🧬✨

At Columbine Hearing Care, we’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about the incredible news regarding genetic modifiers (gene therapy) and their success in restoring hearing for children.

It is, quite literally, a new chapter in medical history. Here is what you need to know about this breakthrough and what it means for our community in Littleton.

The Breakthrough: What happened? In recent clinical trials, children born with a specific type of genetic deafness (Otof-related) received a one-time gene therapy. For the first time ever, we are seeing children move from total silence to hearing and even speaking, thanks to this "genetic repair."

A Note to our Adult Patients: "Is this for me?" We have heard from many of you asking if this treatment will soon replace hearing aids for adults. There are a few reasons why this isn't a "cure-all" for everyone just yet:

1️⃣ Genetic Specificity: This current treatment only works for a very specific, rare genetic mutation. It doesn’t yet apply to hearing loss caused by age, noise exposure, or other health factors.

2️⃣ The "Brain Window": These therapies are most effective in children because their brains are still in a high state of "plasticity.” Meaning they are ready to learn how to interpret sound for the first time.

2️⃣ The Future is Growing: While this specific treatment is for kids, the research is paving the way for future therapies that may eventually help repair the hair cells in adults.

Our perspective at Columbine Hearing Care: We are living in the most exciting era of hearing healthcare. While gene therapy matures in the lab, the AI and digital technologies we use in our clinic today are the bridge that keeps you connected to your world. 🌉

Science is moving fast, but you don't have to wait for a "miracle" to start hearing better today!
