Significant weight loss can transform the body, but it can also leave behind skin that simply can’t shrink with it.

For the right patient, a thigh lift can remove excess skin and reshape the thighs to create a smoother, more balanced contour.

Body contouring after weight loss is about more than what we can capture in a reel. Excess skin can affect clothing choices, movement, comfort, and how patients feel about the body they worked so hard to change.

Thigh lift surgery also involves an important conversation about tradeoffs. Removing excess skin requires an incision and therefore a scar. Part of thoughtful surgical planning is determining whether the improvement in contour is worth that tradeoff for the individual patient.

One of the most important parts of creating a natural-looking belly button after a tummy tuck, mommy makeover, or body lift is anchoring it to the abdominal wall. That connection helps create the natural depth and contour of the belly button. Without thoughtful attention to this part of the procedure, the belly button can appear flatter or look less integrated with the surrounding abdomen.

Patients may never see every technical decision that happens in the operating room, but those details can make a meaningful difference in how natural the final result looks.

Weight changes can affect much more than the number on the scale and sometimes they change the surgical approach, too.

This patient had experienced weight loss followed by weight gain, which created changes in both her skin and underlying tissue. That history became an important part of how Dr. Nick Slenkovich planned her surgery.

Rather than looking at each area independently, he considered how those changes had affected her body as a whole. Her individualized plan combined a buttock/thigh lift with breast implant removal and replacement to address multiple areas and create a more balanced overall contour.

It’s a great reminder that choosing the right procedure isn’t just about identifying what you want to change. Weight history, tissue quality, anatomy, previous surgeries, proportions, and your goals all matter when determining how to get there.

Dr. Slenkovich is currently in Portugal continuing his surgical education, learning new techniques and approaches that he’ll bring back to our patients in Denver.

Reaching a certain level of expertise doesn’t mean the learning stops. In many ways, it makes continued education even more important.
