One year post-mastectomy and breast reconstruction, Ashley has FULL SENSATION back! 💖

Ashley underwent breast reconstruction with Dr. Hunsicker - which included nerve grafting. Today, she is celebrating a milestone that many patients don’t even realize is possible.

WHY NUMBNESS HAPPENS AFTER A MASTECTOMY
During a mastectomy, the delicate sensory nerves running through the breast tissue and skin are severed or removed to successfully treat or prevent breast cancer. Losing these nerves results in a complete loss of sensation (numbness) in the chest wall and reconstructed breast.

THE GAME-CHANGER: NERVE GRAFTING
The incredible news - like Ashley’s story - is that nerve grafting has completely changed what is possible. During the reconstruction surgery, Dr. Hunsicker reconnects the severed sensory nerves by using a nerve graft to bridge the gap.
