FACT OR MYTH: Infant CPR Edition 👶❤️
MYTH: “For infant CPR, you should use two fingers to give chest compressions.”
❌ MYTH! That’s the old technique.
FACT: The 2025 American Heart Association guidelines no longer recommend the two-finger technique for infant chest compressions.
Instead, use either:
👍 Two-thumb encircling technique — wrap your hands around the infant’s chest and use both thumbs to compress the sternum.
✋ Heel of one hand — use the heel of one hand on the sternum, especially if you can’t comfortably encircle the infant’s chest.
Why the change? Research suggests the two-finger technique may not consistently achieve adequate compression depth.
CPR changes. Lives depend on knowing them.
