We cannot emphasize the importance of kids being BAREFOOT! We know- they’ll get dirty, muddy, track dirt in the house, etc. but let’s discuss how the benefits to their bodies wayyyyy outrank the negatives.

Humans have approximately 200,000 nerve endings in their feet. 200,000 ways for our body to feel different sensations which can be passed to the brain. A child being barefoot can support:

-Healthy foot development (bone structure and muscular strength) 🦶🏼
-boosts their immune system and can reduce the risk of allergies and asthma 🤧
-Activates their Proprioceptive system (helps process where their body is in space) 💪🏼
-Improves balance, coordination, and posture 🤸🏻‍♂️
-Stimulates pressure points on their feet (which give feedback to the brain) 🧠
- Connection to nature 🌿

Keep in mind- kids (and floors) are washable! Pro tip- Keep wipes handy for a quick cleanup job before coming back in the house.

Many parents have asked us the question “what exactly should my kids be doing when they’re playing at the park?” So here are some of our favorites! 🛝

No matter the size of the park, there are immeasurable benefits to your child, climbing, swinging, sliding and exploring new ways of moving their bodies. All of this movement will help to regulate their nervous system systems. Not to mention the fresh air and sunshine will also help to regulate the parents’ nervous system too ☀️

Does your kiddo love crashing their body onto the couch, the floor, the walls, pretty much anywhere? Do they use too much force and smash their toys when playing? Do they sound like an elephant stomping around when they walk? You may have a sensory seeker on your hands!

Sensory seekers are children who crave or seek high intensity stimulation to feel regulated, focused, and find their perfect “just right” state. These kids love to move constantly, crash into things, make loud noises, and touch everything because their nervous system is at a higher threshold for input.

Follow us for tips and strategies for activities you can do at home with your sensory seeker or call us today for an evaluation and more information!

Friendly reminder to let kids be kids! Children are not supposed to be quiet, neat, organized, and know how to always get it right. It’s our job to teach them and help give them the tools that they need to achieve this on their own one day. And yes, some children need more help to get there than others, and we are here to support and empower you!

Does it seem like your kiddo just ran around outside for an hour straight and they come inside STILL full of energy? That’s because they are!! While any kind of movement and outdoor time is beneficial, giving your child more goal directed, productive play can better organize their brains, bodies, and emotions. Activities such as these not only target retained primitive reflexes, but also provide vestibular and proprioceptive input to their bodies.

PRO-TIP: make sure you give them this time for movement and play after school BEFORE homework time!
