At Marywood Nursing Care Center, we believe that the most meaningful moments of care are often found in relationships rooted in faith, compassion, and genuine human connection.

Today, we honor our Spiritual Care Team, whose ministry reaches far beyond scheduled services and pastoral visits. Through prayer, listening, companionship, and a faithful presence, they remind our residents that they are deeply loved, never forgotten, and always held with dignity.

One beautiful example comes from one of our Spiritual Care Coordinator, Maureen Gorie, who recently shared this touching reflection:
"Barbara and I became friends at Marywood Nursing Care Center. We felt like we knew each other forever. Yesterday, her daughter said, 'My Mom loves you. Can I take a photo of both of you?' She continued, 'What a blessing—making friends, sisters in Christ.'"
That is the heart of Spiritual Care at Marywood.

It is not simply about offering prayers—it is about walking alongside others, forming lasting bonds, and reflecting Christ's love through presence, compassion, and friendship. These sacred relationships become a source of comfort for residents and peace for families, reminding us that healing of the spirit is just as important as healing of the body.

Our Spiritual Care Team beautifully embodies the Felician Core Values of Respect for Human Dignity, Compassion, Justice & Peace, Transformation, and Solidarity with Those in Need. Their ministry helps make Marywood more than a place of care—it makes it a place where faith is lived, hope is renewed, and every person is welcomed as family.

Thank you, Maureen, and our entire Spiritual Care Team, for being the heart of our mission and a living reminder that God's love is most often experienced through the kindness and presence of another.
💙 "What a blessing... making friends, sisters in Christ." May we all continue to be that blessing for one another.

For the past 8 ½ years, Carol has been the warm smile and reassuring voice that welcomes residents, families, visitors, and team members through our front doors. In moments of uncertainty, she offers calm. In times of stress, she brings reassurance. Through every interaction, she reflects the compassion, dignity, and hospitality that define our Felician-sponsored ministry.
As many families begin a healthcare journey they never expected, Carol understands that a simple act of kindness can bring comfort and hope. She listens with patience, responds with empathy, and helps others feel that they are not walking this journey alone.
When asked what she enjoys most about working at Marywood, Carol shared:
"I like working here because my coworkers are caring people who listen and care about you, and I enjoy interacting with families. Some of the families are facing their first time dealing with this type of situation and knowing I have been in their shoes, I can help ease their nervousness with a little bit of empathy."
Her heart for others doesn't end when she leaves the reception desk. Carol, who describes herself as "believe it or not, a shy person," finds peace working in her flower gardens at home—and even spends part of her lunch break tending to the flowers in Marywood's courtyards, quietly helping make our campus as welcoming and beautiful as the care provided inside.
Carol reminds us that ministry is often found in the smallest moments—a warm greeting, a listening ear, a gentle smile, or a compassionate heart. Through these everyday acts of love and service, she beautifully lives the Felician Core Values and helps make Marywood a place where healing begins the moment someone walks through our doors.
Carol, thank you for sharing your gifts so generously and for being the welcoming heart of Marywood. We are deeply grateful for you and the light you bring to our community each and every day.
