š„ **"That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep."** ā *1 Corinthians 11:30*
This is one of the most sobering verses in the New Testament.
Paul wasn't saying that food itself was evil. He was rebuking the Corinthians for approaching the Lord's Supper with selfish hearts and without recognizing the sacredness of what they were consuming. Their choices had consequences.
It raises an interesting question for us today:
**Do we truly discern the body God has entrusted to us?**
Every day we make choices about what we "eat and drink."
Too often, our plates are filled with:
š© Ultra-processed foods
š„¤ Sugary drinks
š Refined carbohydrates
š¬ Artificial ingredients
These foods are linked to obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, fatty liver disease, chronic inflammation, and many of the illnesses affecting millions today.
Now compare that with the foods God created:
š„© Quality protein
š„¬ Vegetables
š Fruit
š„ Nuts and seeds
š« Healthy fats
š§ Pure water
The Bible doesn't teach that eating processed food is a sin. But it does teach that **our choices have consequences** and that our bodies are gifts to be stewarded wisely.
š *"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit... Therefore honor God with your bodies."* (1 Corinthians 6:19ā20)
God gave us one body. Every meal is an opportunity to nourish itāor slowly wear it down.
Choose the foods God created more often than the foods manufactured in a factory.
Your future self will thank you.
