It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Michael J. Nardino, Sr., our former Executive Director and a deeply respected leader, mentor, and friend. Mike passed away on August 13, 2026, at the age of 84.

A lifelong resident of Lodi, Mike devoted much of his life to serving young people and strengthening his community. He served as Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lodi & Hackensack (now Lower Bergen County) from 2002 through December 31, 2015. Under his leadership, the organization expanded into the City of Hackensack, and he worked tirelessly to strengthen and stabilize the Club for the children and families who depended upon it.

Mike’s relationship with the Club began long before he became its Executive Director. As a boy, he participated in what was then the Lodi Boys Club. Years later, he returned to lead the organization that had meant so much to him. His connection to the Lodi Club was deeply personal, and his dedication to its mission was unwavering.

A newspaper article once described Mike as the “calm in the storm,” a fitting reflection of the steady leadership he provided through years of adversity. Mike guided the Club through floods, tropical storms, hurricanes, and other serious challenges. Following the devastating damage caused by Hurricane Irene in 2011, he once again helped the Club recover and continue serving its members. His sound judgment and determination helped keep the organization afloat during difficult economic times and enabled it to emerge stronger from every crisis.

Among his many accomplishments, Mike was honored as Executive Director of the Year by the New Jersey Association of Boys & Girls Clubs. He remained very active in the statewide Alliance and was a respected voice and advocate within the Boys & Girls Club movement.

Mike’s commitment to Lodi extended far beyond the Club. He was the founder of the Lodi Drug Alliance Committee and served his community as a member of the Lodi Borough Council, a school board trustee, and a Lodi Little League Girls Softball coach.

Mike’s legacy cannot be measured only by the positions he held or the honors he received. It lives on in the countless young people, families, colleagues, and community members whose lives were made better because he cared. Our organization is stronger because of Mike, and we will remain forever grateful for the foundation he built, the storms he helped us weather, and the example he set.

Mike was the beloved husband of MaryAnn Nardino and the late Diane P. Nardino; a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cherished friend to many. We extend our deepest condolences to his family and all who loved him.

Rest in peace, Mike. Your steady leadership, devoted service, and love for this community will never be forgotten. Your impact will continue to ripple far beyond your life here on Earth through the lives of every child you helped, every family you supported, and every person you inspired.

Our members have been making a splash this summer through the Michael Phelps Foundation IM Swim Safety Program! Thanks to this incredible initiative, children are building confidence in and around the water while learning essential swimming and water safety skills.

From practicing swimming techniques to participating in fun, engaging classroom and water activities, our members are strengthening their abilities, growing more comfortable in the pool, and developing healthy habits through active play. We're grateful to the Michael Phelps Foundation for helping us provide these life-saving experiences and ensuring more young people have the skills and confidence to stay safe in and around the water.

Members of our WAZE Summer Program enjoyed a Career Day that was both delicious and inspiring, thanks to Tacolgando Taquerias in Passaic, who welcomed them into their family-owned restaurant!

Our members went behind the scenes with owner Ms. Veronica to learn what it takes to run a successful business, from the day-to-day operations to the dedication and hard work behind entrepreneurship. They also heard from a fellow Club member, who shared what it's like to work alongside her family and be part of the business.

A huge thank you to Tacolgando Taquerias for sharing your time, knowledge, and delicious food (our members couldn't get enough) while inspiring our members to explore future career possibilities!
