Professional Governance: From the Ground Up 🏗️✨

More than 75 nursing leaders from across our Medical Center hospitals and Children’s Hospital recently came together for our annual Professional Governance (PG) event. Focused on strengthening leadership from the foundation up, incoming chairs, co-chairs, and recorders received tools, resources, and guidance to lead their councils and advance Evidence-Based Quality Improvement initiatives.

A special highlight was our first-ever PG panel, where former officers shared insights, mentorship, and practical leadership tips with the next generation of nurse leaders. Their commitment to driving change at the bedside and investing in future leaders continues our mission of teaching, healing, and excellence in patient care. 💙

As a pediatric anesthesiologist, Dr. Justin Horricks helps children and families feel safe and supported during some of their most challenging moments. After receiving a kidney transplant at Loma Linda University Health himself, he returned to the operating room with a mission to provide the same comfort and kindness he experienced.

⚾🏥 On the Field and Ready to Care 🏥⚾

We were proud to serve as the official medical team for the Western Region Little League Playoffs for girls softball!

As young athletes gave it their all on the diamond over the last couple weeks, our Children’s Hospital Emergency Department team stood by to provide expert care and support, helping ensure a safe and successful tournament for every player, coach, and family.

From first pitch to the final out, we’re honored to have supported these incredible athletes and be part of such an exciting community event.

We’re proud to recognize Linda Mason, MD, and the late Leonard Bailey, MD, who were named among INLAND EMPIRE MAGAZINE’s “50 Players Who Shaped the Region” in the publication’s 50th Anniversary issue.

Linda Mason, MD, professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics at LLU and director of Pediatric Anesthesiology at Loma Linda University Children's Hospital, has dedicated her career to advancing pediatric anesthesia and improving the safety of surgery for infants and children. Throughout her distinguished career, she has led Loma Linda's pediatric Aanesthesiology program for nearly four decades, served as president of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, has trained future generations of physicians, and helped shape national education and certification standards in pediatric anesthesia. Through her leadership, education, and mentorship, Dr. Mason's impact has extended far beyond Loma Linda, helping influence the care of children through the physicians she has trained across the country. Inland Empire Magazine recognized her as "a leader in development of pediatric anesthesia to make surgery safer for infants and children."
Also recognized was Leonard Bailey, MD, whose pioneering contributions to pediatric heart surgery transformed the field and continue to leave a lasting impact on children's healthcare around the world.

Congratulations to Dr. Mason on this well-deserved recognition, and to the late Dr. Bailey, whose remarkable legacy continues to inspire generations of healthcare professionals.

At just 15 years old, Shelby Greenfield faced a cancer diagnosis that changed her life forever. What could have been the end of her story became the beginning of a journey defined by courage, resilience, and hope.

Today, Shelby has come full circle—returning to the place that helped her heal and now working at Loma Linda University Children's Hospital. Her experience as a patient inspires the compassion and understanding she brings to every day on the job.

“Being on the other side of care allows me to connect with patients and families in a meaningful way because I’ve walked a similar path.”

Shelby’s story is a powerful reminder that healing can lead to purpose, and that the impact of compassionate care lasts far beyond a hospital stay. 💙
