Our Transplant Institute recently completed its 5,000th kidney transplant, marking a significant achievement made possible by the expertise and dedication of our physicians and multidisciplinary care teams.

Since performing its first kidney transplant in 1967, the Transplant Institute has helped give thousands of patients with kidney failure renewed hope and a second chance at life. This milestone reflects nearly six decades of advancements in transplant care and, most importantly, the extraordinary generosity of organ donors, living donors, and their families.

As we celebrate this incredible milestone, we honor every patient, donor, family member and healthcare professional who has been part of this journey. ❤️

We are excited to celebrate our Spring 2026 Honoree Suzanne Hicks! 🎉

Compassionate care extends far beyond the bedside. Through faith, advocacy, and an unwavering commitment to patients, Suzanne makes a meaningful difference every day behind the scenes.

Read an excerpt from Suzanne's nomination ⤵️

"As Suzanne's Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) Manager, I have the privilege of witnessing firsthand the compassion, faith, and purpose she brings to her work each day. Although her role is not at the bedside, Suzanne never loses sight of the fact that behind every medical record is a patient and family who deserve the very best care.

Suzanne consistently keeps the patient at the center of every chart review, ensuring documentation accurately reflects the severity of illness and the true clinical picture of each patient. Her work helps support the care team in delivering the safest, highest-quality care possible.

What truly sets Suzanne apart is the way she brings compassion and faith into her work. She often pauses to pray for patients and their families during her case reviews, recognizing that healing extends beyond physical illness. She also leads our team in a daily devotion, creating a meaningful moment of reflection that reminds us why we do this work.

Suzanne exemplifies the spirit of the DAISY Award through her compassion, advocacy, faith, and unwavering dedication to the well-being of our patients."

Help us congratulate Suzanne on her compassionate care. 💙🌼

Could what you eat help protect your kidneys?

A new study found that vegan and pesco-vegetarian dietary patterns were associated with better kidney function compared with diets that included meat and dairy.

Researchers analyzed dietary habits, blood biomarkers, and kidney function measures in approximately 900 participants. The findings add to growing evidence that plant-forward nutrition may support long-term health. 🌱🫘🐟

⚠️ Dr. Dmitry Abramov warns that energy drinks may pose significant risks to your heart health.

Energy drinks contain two to three times the amount of caffeine found in an average cup of coffee, along with stimulants like guarana and large amounts of sugar. Together, these ingredients can trigger the body's "fight-or-flight" response.

Consider the impact energy drinks may have on your heart before reaching for your next one.
