I just want to take a moment....

3 years ago we celebrated Halloween in NICU getting some pics taken before going home.

Eric and I did our overnight trial at the hospital.

And we prepared to bring home a baby trach/vent with severe needs. She came home the first week of Nov 2021. Almost 5 months in NICU.

We didn't know what life would be like, we were nervous about being solely responsible with no nursing help. We were told so many things she wouldn't or we wouldn't do as a family, for Carley, and for us as a couple.

If you work at a Children's hospital... the greatest thing you can give is HOPE. that there is LIFE outside of that place. Even if you adapt and adjust to your "new normal" ... there is still good life.

And now... our life looks mostly like everyone else's again. Just with a few extra supports and accessories but those are dropping off too!

We didn't know if she would ever be off the vent. She's off now 16+ hours and hopefully weaning nights soon.

We were told we would live at children's hospitals... we haven't been inpatient in 18 months. And we only have been twice since discharge from NICU and it was only a couple nights each.

We travel. We vacation. We camp.

We are moving towards being back into horses.

Doctors are not God. They do not know or understand everything. Don't let them control your destiny. Find your team that is supportive and shares your vision and helps you get there. Don't settle for what they *think* could happen.

Believe in yourself. Your child. Your family.

Believe in your capability to rise and shine in any circumstance. Because faith, hope, and love go a long way. That's what carries you through the hard times. Knowing it doesn't always have to be like this.

In 2024....

Carley has had zero major illnesses.
She started preschool.
She's been on so many trips. (Disney, NYC, camping, Philly)
She is moving into a big girl bed 🛌
She started using a gait trainer to work on walking.
She got glasses.
She's using her vision all the time.
We don't use a pulse ox during the day, we barely use the suction.
We leave the vent at home 🏡
She got her medical stroller to tote all the things we are rapidly dropping lol
We have had our day nurse for over a year and he is now full time! (What a blessing)
She is happy, healthy, and thriving in her own Carley ways! ❤️

The best things are the things she gave to us.

She brought us back to indiana, closer to family. More time with our parents.

She brought Eric home. No more long hours of mandatory overtime. He is home in the evenings and weekends and spends way more time with the kids. They love having both of us around.

She taught us so much about a world we didn't even know existed and showed us what we are capable of. Lessons of hope, resilience, love, compassion, connection, and asking for support.

I cannot say enough about what having a complicated kiddo brought to our lives, so much more than it took away. While we don't know what the long game outlook is like for Carley... we do know we will love and care for her as long as we have her. And she is thriving and improving every day in her own subtle ways.

The biggest lesson for me has been learning to follow my intuition even in the face of opposing opinions. To be able to stand alone and declare for her what others doubt. To notice the subtleties and appreciate the slow.

I'm a fast mover and do-er.

Learning this world of slow and subtle has been a challenge but the greatest gift. I'm still a mover and do-er but I do it in a different way. In my way. I make my own decisions and put my energy where I want and I take action that aligns with my soul beliefs... not the influence of others.

That gift is worth gold.

My girl, happy almost home-iversary ... we are so happy you're home! ❤️

Have a great day at prek celebrating with your friends! For they have grown to love you as you touch their hearts too. 💕

When your girl has been doing so well you leave the vent in the car or hotel while you run all around PA, NJ and NY.

AND YOU DONT THINK TWICE ABOUT IT!

We "put her on" at night because they're still making us. But we see a different team in November and I'm going to fight hard to wean in 2025, if she can't then she can't and we will give it more time. But I think she can :)

If I could find a smaller suction I could greatly downsize our "go" bag. But the EMS one has been on backorder all year ... gah! We don't even suction her trach but once or twice *maybe* all day but need it "just in case".

Statue of liberty security was a pain with supplies.. I'd love to haul less "just in case" crap around!.... BUT AT LEAST WE ARE VENT FREE DURING THE DAY!

I've never been so happy to leave that sucker at home! It has been a year we've been off days and now we don't even take it :)

Dr Nossov was impressed by Carleys arm actions this visit, she hasn't gotten to see her do alot yet but at conference she commented how well she's doing and she was pleased again this time. She did make a comment about dont assume she will be a walker even though we have her positioned now for it... I said don't assume she won't. It took me 3 years to get her arms communication and doing things... it can take me 6 more for legs I don't care... we're not giving up on her.

We're all living in Carleys world and moving at her pace. Which I've learned is such a ease full place to be... in the slow and subtle. That was a HARD lesson for me to learn and it took a massive shift in my life (Carley) to teach me that.

She chose to be a teacher and motivator in this life... we are letting her do just that. And let her life unravel as it may.

I recently am learning to embrace and identify as a disruptor. To stand on the mountain tops and challenge our doctors to think outside the box and not shut down hope. Because they do not control the destiny of our kids.

Parents and children can be self healing and motivating. Follow the journey. Be open to it. See its messages. For this life is written just for you, all in exact timing, all with people that bring messages and lessons.

I'm changing generational patterning and thoughts and judgements for my family. So my children live differently than before me. And it will open their life and give them access to purpose, bliss, ease, and miracles most people never know.

And Carley was the catalyst.

I always knew I was different, wanted to live different than the norm. I didn't understand what all that meant and I've spent alot of time trying to fit in.

But I'm meant to stand out, to blaze my own trail. To stand up for myself and for those that don't know how for themselves.

Carley was a gift meant just for us. To teach us things. To knock us off the path of chasing a life that wasn't meant for us. We are meant for more. To lead, to cherish, to believe in miracles, to CREATE our own miracles. Because we understand our outer experiences are a direct reflection of our inner reality.

You must calm the inner storm and tackle ancestral limitations and beliefs in order to live a life of your design.

And designing your life is so much fun!

What if all your dreams could come true? Because they can. When you align action with purpose and understand your identity, all things are possible.

The one benefit of our nurse being off some this week: mommy Carley time! And starting my mornings by myself in my own way ❤️

She doesn't think doing laundry is cool but she's kicking away with her new billies on :)

Mommy's first day of preK is today 😄 🤣 😂

Looking forward to it! I enjoy the small moments I get to be part of her daily routine! (Not at work)

Celebrating being a medical momma of a very complex girl... but being able to run in a store or eat dinner... without taking the vent OR suction anymore!!

We may still be nonmobile (for now) but we are dropping equipment like it's our job!!

A little over a year ago we were still toting the vent with her everywhere, then taking it at least in the car, now we rarely take it anywhere!

Say a prayer for Carley to rock her sleep study Thursday night so we can move towards vent free nights.... then we will start whispering about trach free life... momma is NOT ready for that yet. It provides so much security and safety for her right now..( it's more about our comfort level hah!) We are used to trach vent care, and sick care with that. We don't know what life looks like without it!

I know I have a very complicated... but HEALTHY girl.

It's been almost 18 months since an inpatient stay, over a year since we used oxygen, I can't tell you the last round of antibiotics we had.... so blessed. Her immune system is better than most typical kids, her muscles just suck!!

Just feeling thankful for how far we have come. The accessories we don't need anymore. :)

Living her best pool side life this summer ❤️

* no vent pool side!

* suctioning is infrequent these days

* splashing and waves don't make her mad anymore

* she just rides the current around floating :)
