Sports eye injuries send an estimated 30,000 people to the emergency room each year. Can you guess which sport is the riskiest? And which sport is the most surprising source of eye injuries? Did you know there's an easy way to prevent most sight-threatening sports eye injuries?

Wear only protective eye safety glasses made with polycarbonate materials. Prescription eyeglasses or sunglasses do not provide proper protection.

Answers to our questions above: Basketball is the leading cause of sports-related eye injuries and surprisingly, Pickleball causes a lot of eye injuries. '

This is one of the topics we discussed at the conference I attended last week! These popular medications can have very serious ocular side effects! For most people the benefits far outweigh the risks, so you shouldn’t discontinue or avoid them, but you should have an eye exam before starting them and make sure your eye doctor is aware that you are on them!

About 6% of U.S. adults take GLP-1 medications for chronic conditions or weight loss.

But, according to a new AOA report, these medications can impact your eye health. If you’re taking a GLP-1, a comprehensive eye exam with a doctor of optometry is essential to stay on top of any changes in your vision.
