June is PTSD Awareness Month, a time dedicated to changing how we talk about trauma.

While PTSD is often associated exclusively with military veterans, it can develop in anyone who has experienced or witnessed a traumatic event, such as a serious accident, natural disaster, loss, or personal assault.

PTSD is not a sign of weakness... it is a physiological response to overwhelming stress. Recognizing the symptoms, like hypervigilance, intrusive memories, or emotional numbness, is the first step toward reclaiming a sense of safety and wellness.

Events like these are so important because they bring CHWs together from across the state to share ideas, strengthen partnerships, learn from one another, and continue building healthier communities throughout Kentucky. Community Health Workers play a vital role in breaking barriers, connecting individuals to resources, advocating for community needs, and meeting people where they are with compassion and support.
