Susan Cummins

July 28, 1950 – July 2, 2026

Susan Cummins, 75, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2026, in Fullerton, California, after a courageous year-long battle with cancer.

Born on July 28, 1950, in Laramie, Wyoming, Susan was the daughter of Vernal "Bucky" and Lois Wamhoff. She grew up in Laramie with her three siblings and graduated from Laramie High School with the Class of 1968.

Susan met the love of her life, Gary, while they were both working at the University of Wyoming. Their first date was on July 4, 1965, at the Jubilee Days Carnival in Laramie. They were married four years later at St. Lawrence O'Toole Catholic Church, beginning a loving marriage that lasted 57 years.

After welcoming their son, Matthew, Susan and Gary moved to California in 1973, where they made their home and built a life together. Susan enjoyed a fulfilling career in the medical field, where she was known for her compassion, warmth, and ability to make lasting friendships. She had a special gift for bringing comfort and kindness to those around her.

Family was the center of Susan's life. She treasured traveling, spending time with family and friends, and especially her role as "Grandma." Her grandchildren, Thomas and Caralee, brought her immeasurable joy and were among her greatest blessings.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Vernal "Bucky" and Lois Wamhoff, and her sister, Barbara (George) Brower.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Gary Cummins; her son, Matthew (Joy) Cummins; her beloved grandchildren, Thomas (10) and Caralee (7); her brother, Gary (Charlene) Wamhoff of Laramie, Wyoming; her sister, Linda (Sam) Kotby of Laramie, Wyoming; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Laramie, Wyoming, at a later date. Service details will be announced when available.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Foundation for Juvenile Arthritis in Susan's memory.

Helen Elizabeth Burch was born in Los Angeles, California on July 5, 1932. She was the daughter of Catharine Grill Burch and Joseph Burch. Along with her parents and her younger brother James Carroll (Jim), Helen grew up in a tight-knit community of families whose lives centered around church and school. To this day friendships forged in childhood remain. After attending St. Anselm grad school in Southwest Los Angeles Helen gradated from St. Mary’s Academy (Inglewood) in 1950.

Helen next began an adventure that would mold her future. She joined a Catholic religious order – Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters. For the next twenty years she continued her education, earning a bachelor’s degree magna cm laude from St. Louis University (St. Louis, Missouri) and a master’s degree from Fordham University (New York City). In the 1950’s Helen worked primarily in the San Joaquin Valley and Coastal communities of California among migrant farm workers. During years of the Vatican Council (1962-64) she worked for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Office in the beginning years of its Office of Religious Education. Helen and Sister Alma Bill coauthored textbooks that were published by Sadlier Publishing Company. These books helped introduce young people to changes taking place in the Church.

In 1970 Helen left the Missionary Sisters and began a new way of serving people. She became a Research Analyst and worked for Los Angeles County Planning Commission and the County’s Office on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. In 1980, Helen left County employment and started her own company called “HelpNet”, an Employee Assistance Company. For 25 years HelpNet provided licensed counseling and treatment referrals to employees and families of HelpNet’s client organizations.

During these work years and after Helen retired, she was involved in her hobby of doing family history research, she and her cousin Jim Burch of Detroit organized several large family reunions in Kentucky and Michigan. And Helen herself home-produced booklets telling the life stories of her parents and their ancestors.

Finally, Helen was involved in activities at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Long Beach. She participated in the parish Prayer Group, served as a Eucharistic Minister, and for over 25 years worked with Paul Czerwnski and Antonia Meza in the Foreign Mission Outreach project in Tijuana, Mexico. She was also involved in promoting activities of the Southern California Renewal Communities (SCRC).

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Catharine Burch and by her brother James (Jim) Burch. She is survived by sister-in-law Carmen Burch, niece Christine Burch Caceres, nephews David (Sedley) Burch, Erik (Deborah) Burch and Michael (Linda) Burch along with numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Tony Manuel Rivera passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, in Corona, California.

Tony was born on June 13, 1931, in Socorro, New Mexico, to Isabel Baca Rivera and Manuel Rivera. He was the eldest of six children and grew up alongside his siblings, Sam, Jennie, Pauline, Josie (all of whom preceded him in death), and Merlinda.

In September 1951, Tony married Eloisa Gomez. Together they built a loving home and shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. They were blessed with four children: their infant daughter, Edwina, who passed away at nine months of age; Mark (Julie); Edwina (Tom); and Phil (Ann).

Tony proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Richardson, Alaska. He received an honorable discharge in 1953.

After his military service, Tony moved his family to California, eventually settling in Downey. At the age of 30, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening his own barber shop. For 29 years, he faithfully served his community, forming lasting friendships with generations of customers before retiring.

In retirement, Tony and Eloisa made their home in Lakewood, where he faithfully served as an usher at St. Cyprian Catholic Church. Their family continued to grow with the arrival of five cherished grandchildren: Dominic (Carolyn), Ryan, Andrea (Patrick), Rodney, and Kristen (Justin). He was also blessed with four beloved great-grandchildren: Dominic, Adelyn, Lorenzo, and Arden.

Following Eloisa's passing, Tony moved to Avista in Corona, where he enjoyed spending more time with his family and became an active member of the community choir. Singing and playing the guitar became two of his greatest passions, bringing him joy and allowing him to share his love of music with those around him.

Tony was also a talented artist who created personalized birthday cards for family and friends. His artwork remains displayed in the homes of many loved ones, serving as lasting reminders of his creativity and thoughtfulness.

Tony will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his strong work ethic, his deep faith, and the kindness and warmth he shared with everyone he met. He lived a life defined by service, generosity, and love. His legacy lives on through his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and the countless lives he touched throughout his 95 years.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love.

William "Bill" Louis Stelmar, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Lakewood, California on June 23, 2026. Born on May 2, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, Bill grew up in the Westchester neighborhood of Los Angeles, developing a deep pride for his country and his community.

A Proud American, Bill served his nation in the Army National Guard. He later dedicated his career to the defense industry, working for Hughes Aircraft Company until his retirement in 1996.

Above all achievements, Bill cherished his time with his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an incredibly proud grandfather.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lydia Stelmar; his son, Robert Stelmar, and daughter-in-law, Sylvia; and his daughter, Kimberly Martin, and son-in-law, Ryan. He also leaves behind six grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life: William Stelmar, Matthew Stelmar, Kathleen Martin, Megan Martin, Madeline Martin, and John Martin.

Funeral Services for Bill will be held on Tuesday, July 14th at St. Cornelius Catholic Church, beginning with viewing starting at 9:30 a.m., followed by Rosary at 10:00 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place after the Funeral Mass at All Souls Cemetery in Long Beach. A reception will follow at the Lakewood Country Club - 3101 Carson Street, Lakewood, CA 90712.

Vivian Beatrice Kapono

Vivian Beatrice Kapono, 94, of Long Beach, California, passed away peacefully at home on June 22, 2026. Born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii, she lived a full and devoted life surrounded by her family in both California and Hawaii.

Vivian was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Kapono; her son, Kennard Kapono Sr.; her parents, Joaquin and Teresa Ferreira; and her sisters, Thelma Ventura and Evelyn (Eveline) Ogawa.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph (Joni) Kapono and Daniel Kapono.

She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Rasmussen of Georgia; her sisters-in-law, Carol Kekela and Susan Maluo DeVera, both of Hilo, Hawaii.

Vivian was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren: Melissa (John) Cooper; Kennard (Emilie) Kapono Jr.; Candice (Deen) Alcaraz; Danny Kapono; Jason (Ashley) Kapono; and Jillian Kapono.

She was also the proud great-grandmother of ten great-grandchildren: Deen (Carly) Alcaraz Jr.; Taylor Kapono; Chris (Kaeleigh) Alcaraz; Brayden Cooper; Isla Kapono; Campbell Kapono; Luke Kapono; Austin Kapono; Senna Kapono; Bane Kapono; and Chance. She was additionally blessed with a great-great-grandson, Wesley Alcaraz. She also leaves behind her beloved nieces, Terri and Charlene, along with numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

Vivian found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was a devoted Los Angeles Dodgers fan and also enjoyed watching game shows, tennis, golf, and classic Westerns. She loved working crossword puzzles, cooking for family and friends, and spending time with her Kappa Delta Phi sorority sisters. Some of her happiest memories were made on camping trips with the Cop Outs, a camping group for retired police officers.

Vivian also took great pride in her work as a playground supervisor for the Long Beach Unified School District and generously volunteered at Long Beach Memorial Hospital, where her caring nature and willingness to help others touched many lives.

Vivian leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, kindness, and joy that will live on through her family. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
