You can come to pelvic floor therapy while on your period, but you don’t have to.

This is always an individual discussion between the therapist and patient.

It depends on what we are doing in PT. Is it just internal work or are there other things we are working on?

The therapist isn’t grossed out by a little blood or bodily fluid, but it’s also your decision on your comfort level.

You don’t have to do an internal exam in pelvic floor therapy.

We get the most direct information about the pelvic floor muscles by doing an internal exam, but it is never required.

You should be in control of your choices of what you want to do or not do in a pelvic floor therapy session.

There are lots of other things we can do besides an internal exam.

These are common things we would do in a pelvic floor evaluation.

Of course, everything is with consent.

And, it’s not just about looking at the pelvic floor, but looking at the whole person.

Do you feel like you often have to rush to make it to the toilet on time?

Kegels alone are never going to solve this problem.

They might help, but that rushing sensation is going to come back again.

How do we prevent that rushing sensation?

There are many techniques that can help and kegels might be part of the solution, but never the full solution.

I help people overcome this every day in my clinical practice and I made an entire online course for how to improve your bladder.

You can check out the preview of the course and learn a few tips to start with here:

Do you think you finished p*eing and then you leak when you stand up from the toilet?

This could be from tight pelvic floor muscles not allowing you to fully empty.

It could be you didn’t give yourself enough time to finish p*eing.

There are a few reasons this could happen, and pelvic floor therapy can help you figure out why it is happening to you.
