We're delighted to welcome you to the Columbia Pediatrics family! Whether you're a first-time parent or are joining us from elsewhere, we hope that the following introduction to our office can help familiarize you with our services and procedures. Columbia Pediatrics is interested in providing quality care in an atmosphere that is comforting to children and their families. We believe that as a larger pediatric group, we have the ability to meet the needs of our patients and yet are still able to provide personal care and attention. Due to our proximity and interaction with Long Beach Memorial Medical Center/ Miller Children's Hospital, we are continually able to provide "state-of-the-art" care for children with special needs as well as administer pediatric care by the American Academy of Pediatrics from birth through the late teens.

Long Beach has reported increased mosquito activity this season. Protect yourself with insect repellents and eliminating mosquito breeding grounds around your home.

this fall - even as the weather starts to cool down, mosquitoes are still active! Apply insect repellent containing an EPA-registered active ingredient to exposed skin and clothes to protect yourself from mosquito bites. You can also wear long sleeves and pants.

Celebrate Child Passenger Safety Week by making sure your children are in the appropriate car restraints.

Current 2026 California Requirements
Under Age 2: Must ride in a rear-facing car seat, unless they reach 40 pounds or more OR 40 inches or more in height.
Under Age 8: Must be properly secured in a car seat or booster seat located in the back seat.
Age 8 or 4’9” Tall: Children who reach 8 years of age OR a height of 4 feet 9 inches may transition to a standard vehicle safety belt, though booster seats are still advised if the belt does not fit properly.

Starting in January 2027, the law will change to include the 5-Step Test Criteria: The child’s back must rest flat against the vehicle seat, knees must bend comfortably at the edge, the lap belt must lie low across the upper thighs/hips, the shoulder belt must cross the center of the chest/shoulder, and the child must be able to maintain this posture for the entire trip. If they fail any single step, they must remain in a booster seat.

Take a moment of silence to remember those who died 25 years ago during the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks.

The City of Long Beach will hold a moment of silence. The ceremony will begin at approximately 9:05 a.m. and residents are invited to watch it via livestream on the following City pages:

All City facilities will fly the American flag at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Friday, Sept. 11, in remembrance and as a mark of respect for the first responders and civilians who died during the terrorist attack.
