Jazz on the Bay puts live music right on the sand at Alamitos Bay on summer evenings. It is a Long Beach staple. But for a lot of people, the drive home is the harder part: oncoming headlights that bloom into halos, streetlights that streak, road markings that seem to disappear in the dark.

If that sounds familiar, it is worth knowing that difficulty with night vision and glare sensitivity are two of the earliest signs of cataract development. The lens inside the eye scatters light as it clouds, and artificial light at night is often where patients notice it first.

Cataracts are one of the most treatable conditions in all of medicine. The earlier the conversation starts, the more choices you have. Call 562-799-2020 to schedule an evaluation.

It sounds like the opposite of dry eye, but chronic tearing is often caused by the same thing: an eye surface that is not getting the lubrication it needs, triggering overflow as a response. It can also mean a blocked or narrowed tear duct that is preventing drainage entirely.

Either way, constantly watery eyes that blur your vision, leave you dabbing at your face all day, or make wearing makeup or glasses miserable is a medical issue, not just an inconvenience.

At Eye Physicians of Long Beach, Dr. Roya Ghafouri performs tear duct surgery and other oculoplastic procedures to address the cause, not just the symptom. If this sounds familiar, it is worth having evaluated. Call 562-799-2020 to schedule a consultation.

August is Children's Eye Health and Safety Month, and with schools across Long Beach heading back this month, there are just a few weeks left to make sure your child is set up to learn.

Vision problems are one of the most common and most missed reasons kids fall behind in school. A child who cannot see the board clearly often does not know that is the problem. They just know that school feels hard.

A comprehensive pediatric eye exam catches what a standard school screening misses, including early signs of nearsightedness, astigmatism, and conditions like lazy eye that are far easier to treat when identified young.

Call 562-799-2020 to schedule your child's exam before the first day of school.

August is National Eye Exam Month, and glaucoma is one of the best reasons to take that seriously.

Most people imagine they will notice when something is wrong with their vision. With glaucoma, that is not how it works. The disease damages the optic nerve gradually, starting at the outer edges of your visual field where the loss is nearly impossible to detect on your own. By the time you notice something is off, significant and irreversible damage has already occurred.

The only way to catch it early is a comprehensive eye exam. A simple pressure test and optic nerve evaluation can identify glaucoma before it takes any vision at all.

If it has been more than a year since your last exam, this month is a good reason to change that. Call 562-799-2020 to schedule your appointment.

Every Friday through summer, the Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden at Cal State Long Beach hosts a free concert series. Picnic blankets, good music, warm evenings.

The version of that night without contacts drying out in the breeze, without smudged lenses, without the whole routine: that is what LASIK feels like.

The procedure takes about 15 minutes per eye. Most patients see clearly the next morning. Dr. Carlos Martinez has helped countless Long Beach patients get there, and he hosts Lunch and Learn events if you want to ask every question before committing to anything.

The series runs through August. Call 562-799-2020 to schedule your consultation.

A frame gets you noticed. The lens inside is what determines whether you can actually see.

Lens technology has changed significantly, and not everyone leaving an optical shop understands what they just bought. Anti-reflective coatings, blue light filters, high-index materials for thinner lenses at stronger prescriptions, photochromic lenses that adapt to light conditions: each of these affects how you see and how comfortable your eyes feel through a full day.

Our on-site Optical Shop team takes the time to match the right lens to how you actually live, not just what your prescription says. Stop by or call 562-799-2020 to learn more.

Most people think cataract surgery just removes the cloudy lens and replaces it with a basic one. That part is true. What they do not know is that there are premium lens options that can also correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism at the same time, reducing or eliminating the need for glasses after surgery.

The difference in what you see and how you live afterward can be significant, and it is a decision worth making before you go in, not after.

If you or someone you love is facing cataract surgery, the conversation about lens options is one of the most important ones to have early. Call 562-799-2020 to schedule a consultation with our team.

You do not have to surf to get surfer's eye. Pterygium is a non-cancerous growth on the white of the eye that develops from years of UV exposure, coastal wind, and saltwater. It starts as redness or irritation and, in more advanced cases, can creep across the cornea and affect your vision.

It is one of the most common eye conditions in beach communities, and one of the least talked about.

If you have noticed something on the white of your eye, or your eyes stay red and irritated after time outside, it is worth having checked. Call 562-799-2020 to schedule an evaluation.

When the skin above your eye droops low enough, it starts cutting into your field of vision from the top. Patients often adapt without noticing, tilting their head back slightly or raising their brows to compensate. It is only when it is corrected that they realize how much they were working around it.

Ptosis, or drooping eyelid, is a medical condition, not just a cosmetic one. When it affects your visual field, the procedure to correct it is often covered by insurance.

At Eye Physicians of Long Beach, Dr. Roya Ghafouri specializes in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery, including functional eyelid procedures. If your upper eyelids feel heavy or your vision feels narrowed at the top, it is worth a conversation. Call 562-799-2020 to schedule an evaluation.

High prescription. Thin corneas. Dry eyes. These are the reasons patients get turned away from LASIK, and they do not have to mean a lifetime of contacts.

EVO ICL is a vision correction procedure built for exactly that patient. A tiny implantable lens is placed inside the eye, no corneal reshaping required. It is reversible, leaves the cornea untouched, and works well for people with dry eye concerns.

No solution case in your beach bag. No contacts burning from saltwater at Alamitos Bay. Just clear vision and one less thing to manage.

Dr. Carlos Martinez can tell you whether EVO ICL is right for you. Call 562-799-2020 to schedule a consultation.
