Pine Animal Hospital & Integrative Wellness Center

Pine Animal Hospital & Integrative Wellness Center Pine Animal Hospital & Integrative Wellness Center is a state-of-the-art facility offering advanced and personalized veterinary care.

Our team of experienced veterinarians deliver a range of medical, preventive, surgical, urgent, and diagnostic services. At Pine Animal Hospital we understand that it is frustrating to be left out of decisions concerning your animal’s treatment — or worse, not even know what decisions are being made. That’s why we make sure you understand what we are doing and why we are doing it. After all, it is

your pet that we are treating, and we view our role as your partner in achieving your animal’s optimal health. Everyone has their opinions and values when it comes to the right way to approach their pet’s health. We respect that there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to medicine. Our job is to tell you what is possible, and your job is to decide what is right for you and your pet. We explain the possible outcomes of various options and let you know when we believe a particular choice is better than another, but never push you to do something that makes you uncomfortable. We want you to have enough of an understanding of your animal’s condition and the applicable risks and pros/cons to make the decision that best meets your values and desires. That’s why we do our best to explain complicated medical concepts and protocols in a way you can easily understand. Dr. Steve is well known for his frequent spontaneous diagram drawings! When at home follow up care for your animal is required, we make sure to take the time to explain and demonstrate the process to you, whether it’s applying eye ointment or ear cleaner, giving oral medications, or administering fluids under the skin. Our state of the art technology and software allow us to share information with you in more clear and effective ways. We don’t just tell you that your dog or cat has gingivitis or an ear infection – we show you a magnified image of their teeth or ear on a screen with our wireless otoscope. All diagnostic tests run and reports prepared at our hospital – including x-ray and ultrasound images – are available for you to retrieve online through our website any time. You get a login which allows you to access all of your pet’s records whenever you want.

Who owns your veterinary hospital—and who is actually making the decisions?

At the July 15 meeting of the California Veterinary Medical Board, I called for three basic reforms:

First: Every veterinary facility should be required to publicly disclose every person and entity with an ownership or controlling interest—including parent companies, private equity sponsors, management companies, and veterinary service organizations.

Second: Accountability should follow actual authority and control. Veterinarians should remain responsible for their own clinical decisions, but owners and controlling entities should also be accountable when problems result from staffing cuts, denied resources, production mandates, budgets, or business policies imposed on the hospital.

Third: Veterinarians and staff should be protected when they document and report owner or corporate interference with professional judgment or minimum standards of care.

Pet owners should not have to dig through corporate filings, job postings, privacy policies, and layers of limited liability companies just to learn who owns and controls the hospital treating their animal.

This is not anti-business. It is pro-transparency, pro-professional independence, and pro-consumer protection.

To every veterinary facility or corporate group that believes California consumers do not need to know who owns and controls their hospital: this video is for you.

Do you believe veterinary facilities should be required to publicly disclose their full ownership and control structure?

These comments reflect my personal views and do not represent an official position of the California Veterinary Medical Board.

We’re looking for an associate veterinarian who wants to practice real medicine again.

Pine Animal Hospital is an independently owned, doctor-led small animal hospital in Long Beach built around thoughtful diagnostics, strong technician support, collaboration, ethical recommendations, and clinical growth.

This is not a production-first, script-driven, corporate-style role.

We’re looking for a veterinarian who still loves medicine, wants to keep growing, enjoys working with a strong team, and wants the tools and support to work up cases properly.

Confidential conversations are welcome. You do not need to be actively job hunting to reach out.

If you know a veterinarian who may be looking for something different, please share this with them.

Your first veterinary job should build your confidence — not break your spirit.

For veterinary students, new graduates, technicians,71"}
Your first veterinary job should build your confidence — not break your spirit.

For veterinary students, new associates, and job seekers, ownership transparency matters.

Before accepting a veterinary job, ask more than:
“What is the salary?”
“What are the benefits?”
“What equipment do you have?”

Also ask:
Who owns this hospital?
Who controls staffing?
Is mentorship protected on the schedule?
How is production calculated?
Can I practice medicine consistent with my judgment?
Are doctors pressured by revenue metrics?
What happens when the team says the schedule is unsafe?

A corporate job is not automatically bad.
An independent job is not automatically good.

But vague ownership, weak mentorship, opaque production pay, chronic understaffing, and lack of medical autonomy are warning signs in any practice.

New guide for vet students and job seekers:

https://whoownsyourvetlongbeach.com/vet-students-job-seekers/

Before you sign, ask who owns the hospital — and who controls the workplace you are about to enter.
