JFCS of Long Beach & Orange County

JFCS of Long Beach & Orange County The vision of JFCS is a community healed, one person, one family at a time.

Our mission is to empower people to make positive changes through professional, affordable counseling and social services. We serve everyone in the entire community, without regard for religion, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, disability, or sexual orientation. JFCS is the only agency in Long Beach/South Bay/Orange County area that serves the entire life cycle, ages 4-104, on a sliding fee scale.

We work with individuals, couples, families to address a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, loss, trauma, anger, grief, and stress. We offer the comfort of knowing that one need not face life's challenges, or celebrate life's victories, alone.

Today, we honor Juneteenth - a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and celebrates the resilience, strength, and contributions of Black Americans throughout history.

At JFCS of Long Beach and Orange County, we believe that every person deserves to live with dignity, opportunity, and hope. As we reflect on the significance of this day, we reaffirm our commitment to building a more just, compassionate, and inclusive community for all.

🌴On May 14, JFCS hosted an abstract art workshop that brought participants together for an afternoon of creativity, connection, and emotional restoration. Guided by volunteer Howard H., participants worked with palm tree bark — a unique natural material symbolizing growth, resilience, renewal, and transformation. Just as palm trees remain strong through changing conditions, participants explored themes of healing, inner strength, and personal growth through art.

🎨During the two-hour workshop, participants created abstract art pieces while experimenting with texture, form, and self-expression in a welcoming and supportive environment. No artistic experience was needed — only a willingness to create and connect. Conducted in both Ukrainian and English, the workshop also provided a relaxed space to practice English while building community through creativity. The experience offered participants an opportunity to recharge emotionally, reconnect with themselves, and find inspiration through art.

JFCS, in partnership with .us, held an online workshop to help local Ukrainian newcomers focus on better understanding anxiety, overwhelming emotions, and recognizing them during periods of uncertainty and major life transitions. Reflecting after the workshop, one client said, "I found the guided exercise for managing intrusive thoughts and the relaxation practice especially helpful. The information was practical and relevant to everyday life.”
☝ This is why we do what we do.
