Memorial Medical Center Foundation

Memorial Medical Center Foundation We provide support for Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach Long Beach has a rich history of community support. and Loraine H.

And, for more than 50 years, Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach have thrived thanks to this generous community. In 1961, the Memorial Medical Center Foundation was established as a 501(c)(3) so that individuals, corporations and foundations could ensure excellent health care close to home. Since its inception, grateful patients and philanthropic friends have co

ntinued to step up and give tomorrows for men, women and children in our region. From Miller Children's whose namesakes, Earl B. Miller, established an enduring legacy for the children of greater Long Beach, to the capital equipment purchased annually by the business community members of the Partnerships in Excellence program, the legacy of philanthropy can be seen across our campus. We, at the Memorial Medical Center Foundation, are proud to be the stewards of this generosity. We provide support for the following areas at Long Beach Memorial and Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach:

Patient Programs
Patient programs compliment an individual's treatment plan. Many programs exist solely because of philanthropic support—like the Women Guiding Women: Cancer Support and Education programs at the MemorialCare Breast Center at Long Beach Memorial and the Jonathan Jaques Children's Cancer Center psychosocial programs at Miller Children's, which helps patients and families cope with the physical and emotional aspects of childhood cancer and serious blood disorders. Clinical Research
Clinical research gives physicians the latest tools with which to treat patients. Our physicians and research staff are among the best in the world, dedicated to offering patients the newest treatment options before they become available elsewhere. Medical Equipment
Technology assists physicians and care teams in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and medical conditions. It can even play a direct part in a patient's comfort as they heal. Philanthropy has enabled us to secure the da Vinci® Surgical System, the premiere robotic surgical technology, which enhances a physician's abilities and eliminates a patient's exposure to a more invasive procedure; an electromagnetic navigation bronchoscope, providing advanced technology for early detection of lung cancer and other lung diseases; and a TomoTherapy machine, which offers precision guided radiation in the treatment of cancer. Education
Medical education is an integral part of the strategic plan for Long Beach Memorial, Miller Children's Hospital Long Beach and Community Hospital Long Beach. Support extends to many areas on campus: Graduate medical education which oversees approximately 350 residents, fellows and students who rotate through our campus annually; continuing medical education enables practicing physicians to receive their required continuing medical education credits to maintain licensure and enhance lifelong learning; and nursing education which provides training for hundreds of students from several local colleges. Supporting this environment of learning brings onto campus the latest best practices from academia along with the young professionals who are experienced with the most advanced technologies available. Capital Expansion
To ensure that the health care needs of the greater Long Beach community are met and even exceeded, our medical campus must always grow and change. Philanthropy has been an integral part of the recent changes on campus from the addition of the Miller Children's Hospital Pavilion, the expansion and renovation of the MemorialCare Center for Women to the soon to be completed MemorialCare Todd Cancer Pavilion. Without community support none of these advancements would be possible.

Thank you to everyone who supported Dancing for Our Stars benefiting the MemorialCare Todd Cancer Institute (TCI) at Long Beach Memorial. Congratulations to our own Dr. Nilesh Vora and his wife, Pinal, who took home the Champion’s Trophy at this year’s event. Dr. Vora’s win was the result of pre-show fundraising, dance scores, and total number of votes received during the evening. And a special thank-you to all of our dancers, who were all winners for TCI – Paul Velasco, Debra Greco, Hilda Sanchez & David Rigby, and Cindy & Randy Allen. Stay tuned for updates and photos!

The holidays were a time for making dreams come true – especially when it came to The Bucket List Project. Patient Brandon (41), who is currently fighting cancer, had a wish of pitching a story to a Hollywood executive. As part of The Bucket List Project, he recently had the chance to share his idea with the creative team at a major studio. According to Brandon, the meeting was encouraging and motivating. THANK YOU to social worker Rose Oxford and Dr. Nilesh Vora, as well as all of our supporters, for making this program a reality. To learn more: http://bit.ly/1W5cfqF

Support the arts! Did you know donor support helps fund art supplies and exhibitions for the Artful Healing Program at Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach? In FY2015, more than 500 pediatric patients were empowered through self-expression, as led by our resident artist Denise Clayton-Leonard. There are now more than 1,500 pieces in the Miller Children's Kids Art Collection, much of which adorns the hallways of our hospital. THANK YOU for being part of the healing!
