walk into enough corner shops in new york and you'll start noticing the same thing. a cat, usually asleep, usually somewhere it technically shouldn't be. on the counter. in the fruit display. curled up next to the register like it owns the place.
it kind of does.
these cats were never hired in any formal sense. most just wandered in one day and stayed, and the owners realised fast that a cat on patrol meant fewer mice near the stock. customers noticed too. entire instagram accounts exist purely to document these cats, shop by shop, block by block.
nobody trained them for this. they just showed up, made themselves at home, and the whole neighbourhood adjusted around them.
