Arthur Joe Simmons '83'
Arthur Joe Simmons of Dallas was born on October the 31st, 1942, in Longview to the union of Sinus Simmons and Pearlene Williams Smite. Arthur was the oldest of eight children. Arthur was reared in Longview, Texas, where he attended Northside Elementary School and Mary C. Womack High School as a member of the class of 1962. During his formative years, he cultivated the values of discipline, integrity, and respect that would remain evident throughout his life.
On December 15, 1963, Arthur married Jean Evelyn Hurd. To that union, they were blessed with three wonderful children, Trevisia
, Tanya, and Miko Simmons. He and his wife were blessed with three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
For more than 40 years, Arthur faithfully worked as a certified welder, establishing a reputation for his excellence, dependability, and professionalism. He retired in 2005 after a distinguished career defined by dedication and pride in his workmanship. Arthur was admired not only for his strong work ethic but also for his willingness to lend encouragement and support to others. In his leisure time, he found great joy in watching sports and cowboy movies and listening to jazz, rhythm, and blues. He was also crafty, enjoyed building small projects. He enjoyed companionship of family and friends, often sharing meaningful conversation, wisdom, and laughter.
On Thursday, May 12th, 2026, Brother Arthur Joe Simmons peacefully departed this earthly life and entered eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his parents, Finnis Simmons and Perrylin Williams -Fite, Willie Ray Fite (stepfather), and his beloved siblings, Laverne, Sandra, Ray (Milford), Mary, and Pernancio.
Arthur leaves to cherish and honor his memory his devoted wife, Jean Simmons, his loving children, Travisa, Tonja, and Meco. His cherished grandchildren, Chandra (husband James), Darious (wife Sophia), and Jamyiah, and his treasured great-grandchildren, Amari, Maiara, Logan, and Sebastian. He is also survived by Roy Fite, Stephen Simmons, Sylvia Fite, and Patricia Simmons, Alone with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his presence.
Arthur Joe Simmons will be remembered for his steadfast character, enduring love for his family, and the lasting impact he made upon all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of faith, strength, and compassion shall remain forever in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
