During Texas Oncology’s Annual Meeting this past weekend, we celebrated 40 years of serving Texans with cancer.

And in 1993—33 years ago—Texas Oncology Longview began serving the East Texas community as one of the first comprehensive cancer centers built by Texas Oncology.

Today, that mission has grown exponentially, with more than 84 comprehensive cancer centers and 600+ oncologists across the state.

What was clear throughout the meeting is that patients remain at the center of everything we do. The size and scale of our group allow patients—even in communities like East Texas—to have access to cutting-edge technology, innovative treatments, and one of the nation’s largest community-based clinical trial networks.

A central theme throughout the meeting was: How will AI change cancer care?

We heard perspectives from thought leaders from across the country and beyond about how rapidly medicine is evolving and what that could mean for our patients.

I left hopeful about where cancer care is headed and energized about what the next chapter of medicine may bring.

Forty years of Texas Oncology.
Thirty-three years in Longview.
And the most exciting advances in cancer care are still ahead of us. Experience matters when so much is at stake.

A room full of oncologists giving a standing ovation to a clinical trial result—one that offers new hope to a group of patients who previously had few options—is something you may witness only once or twice in an entire career.

The scientists and institutions who funded the research. The pharmaceutical teams who pushed it through the system. The clinical investigators who refused to give up. And most importantly, the patients who trusted the process and courageously signed up for the trial.

They are all heroes.

This is the kind of front-page news that is truly refreshing to see.

It’s not always easy to share your own health journey but ETXrex using her platform for patient education and a kind word about Dr. John and his team as well Texas Oncology is powerful.

35 years serving the Longview Community with the size and scale of Texas Oncology and Sarah Cannon Research Institute.

Incredible oncologists who live in and support our community.

We have brought stereotactic radiation to the community. We have brought a prostate cancer brachytherapy program which draws patients from all over the country. We have brought gynecological oncology. We have brought the expertise of hematologic malignancy specialists. We have brought Bispecific therapy. We have brought radiopharmaceutical therapies.

All of this while providing care in a cost effective free standing cancer department with no facility fees or markups.

A big shout out to the radiation team at Texas Oncology making my 45th birthday very special!

A Texas Oncology × Chit Show × Chip’s 45th birthday is a memory I won’t soon forget.

Bill Taylor’s unforgettable Chit cameo stole the show, and Jay Renshaw personally signed photo is a keepsake I’ll always treasure.

As a huge sketch comedy fan, The Chit Show never fails to lead to laughter and is one of my favorite shows.

One of the things I appreciate most about our team is our ability to balance the weight of what we do with moments of genuine fun. We care for patients during some of the most challenging times in their lives. The work is meaningful, emotionally demanding, and often stressful—but having incredible colleagues who know when to laugh together makes all the difference.

I’m grateful to work alongside such a talented, compassionate, and supportive team. The best teams don’t just deliver exceptional care—they enjoy each other and the mission along the way.
