Some kids are fighting battles they don’t even have the words to explain yet. 💔

During Mental Illness Awareness Week, let’s remember the children who are struggling quietly.

Some kids still go to school, play sports, laugh with friends, and smile for pictures—while hurting inside.

We can’t wait until they’re teenagers to talk about mental health.

Teach them early that it’s okay to say:

“I’m not okay.”
“I’m scared.”
“I’m anxious.”
“I’m sad.”
“I need help.”

And when they do, listen. Believe them. Be there.

Mental health conversations belong in childhood, too.

Talk to your kids. Ask the hard questions. Start earlier than you think you need to. ❤️

🧩 What Does Gestalt Language Mean?

Gestalt language means learning and using whole phrases or “chunks” of words before breaking them down into individual words.

For example, a child may say “Let’s go!” as one learned phrase to express excitement, wanting to leave, or wanting something to happen.

At Tom’s Place, we listen to the words and phrases children use and help build on their natural communication in a supportive, non-therapeutic environment.
