What Is Nearsightedness, Really?

Nearsighted. You've probably heard the term, but what does it actually mean? 🤔👁️

Nearsightedness (also called myopia) means you can see things up close just fine, but objects in the distance appear blurry. It happens when the eye grows slightly too long, causing light to focus in front of the retina instead of directly on it.

And it's more common than ever, especially in kids and young adults. In fact, myopia rates have been rising steadily over the past few decades, largely linked to increased screen time and less time spent outdoors.

The good news? It's very manageable. Glasses, contacts, and myopia control treatments can all help, and the earlier we catch it, the better.

Think you or your child might be nearsighted? Book an exam at the link in our bio! 💚

Summer is here, and we are HERE for it. ☀️But before you head outside, let's talk about protecting those eyes!

UV rays are at their strongest during the summer months, and prolonged exposure can contribute to cataracts, macular degeneration, and even sunburn on your eyes (yes, that's a real thing, it's called photokeratitis 😬).

Here's how to keep your eyes safe all summer long:

- Wear sunglasses with 100% UVA & UVB protection
- Don't forget a wide-brimmed hat for extra coverage
- Wear goggles when swimming, chlorine and bacteria are no joke
- Give your eyes extra love if you wear contacts outdoors

Enjoy every sunny moment, do it safely! 😎💚 Book your summer eye exam at the link in our bio.

You are what you eat, and so are your eyes!

Certain nutrients play a huge role in keeping your vision sharp and your eyes healthy as you age. Some of the best foods for your eyes include: leafy greens, salmon and sardines, carrots and sweet potatoes, citrus fruits, bell peppers & nuts and seeds!

A balanced diet won't replace your annual eye exam, but it goes a long way in supporting your long-term vision health! 💚

Here's something every parent should know: kids don't always know their vision is blurry. 👧👦

If they've never seen clearly, they have no way of knowing something is wrong! That's why routine pediatric eye exams are so important, even if your child isn't complaining about their eyes.

Signs to watch for:

- Sitting too close to the TV
- Squinting or covering one eye
- Frequent headaches or eye rubbing
- Difficulty reading or focusing in school.

Early detection makes all the difference. We offer comprehensive eye exams for kids of all ages.

Your Vision Is Worth Protecting 👁️✨

We say it a lot, but we mean it every time — regular eye exams are one of the most important things you can do for your long-term health.

Vision changes can happen gradually, and many serious eye conditions have no obvious symptoms in the early stages. The only way to truly know your eyes are healthy? Get them checked by a professional.

Whether you're due for your annual exam or it's been a little longer than you'd like to admit, no judgment here! 😄 We're always happy to see you.
