Today a rep with a very novel product came by the office today and let us try it out! The product was an interactive virtual reality goggles to reduce acute and chronic pain..
 Christian,a brilliant young doctor to be, was nice enough enough to test the goggles while on the procedure table. Another patient was gracious enough to try these goggles out and wear them during a lumbar  medial branch nerve radio frequency ablation procedure . And sure enough , the interactive virtual reality goggles did seem to reduce pain during a procedure.

This is Chantel, a wonderful French Canadian woman who moved to Florida seeking a warmer climate. She had a long history of severe back pain, which eventually led her to a spine surgeon who performed a multilevel lumbar fusion with posterior instrumentation. Following the surgery, she continued to have excruciating axial back Pain ,made worse upon standing. Despite this severe pain, she continued to work full-time as a cardiac cath lab nurse in a local level one trauma hospital. Everyday she spends long hours on her feet, standing while wearing a heavy lead apron. She takes emergency calls on nights and weekends, which means she rarely gets a break to rest her back and must constantly stay mentally sharp and avoid heavy medications that could interfere with her life-saving job performance. I wanted to share a recent case that I am extremely proud of. I am sharing this extraordinary case not just because I am proud of it but because I hope by sharing this online someone else who is in desperate need can be encouraged to seek out this life transforming, cutting edge, medical therapy!

This is Cassy. Cassy's life has been dramatically influenced by a terrible accident she experienced when she was 17 years old!

While at the beach with friends, she was sitting on a short wall next to the beach parking area, when a Jeep jumped the curb and struck her left lower leg. The Jeep briefly pinned her lower leg between its bumper and the concrete wall. Essentially destroying most of her muscle, bone, and nervous tissue in her lower left lower leg.

From that point on her life has been a long string of hospitalizations, reconstructive surgeries, and rehab stents. These heroic measures were able to save her foot but very unsuccessful at alleviating her horrible pain!

She had lived with debilitating pain for years! She had seen a multitude of doctors and tried a myriad of therapies and medications with only marginal success! She reported that the inability for doctors to control her pain had dramatically effected her life and even the lives of her family. As is the norm with severe chronic pain, she had suffered from clinical depression and anxiety.

She traveled miles to see be seen at Orlando Pain Centers of Excellence ! And I am so glad she did! I offered her a Dorsal Root Ganglion Stimulator ((DRG) and despite her reservations about trying another medical procedure, she entrusted me with her care and allowed me to try to help her!

Using a contralateral approach, I placed a two lead Dorsal Root Ganglion Neuromodulation Device at the Left L4 and L5 nerve roots. And DID IT EVER WORK WELL !!! I am so happy and proud to report Cassy was able to achieve 100% pain control!

No pain at all in the extremity where the pain had dominated her life for over 35 years! PLT!

This is a Photo of my patient Amanda. Amanda is a beautiful young mother of two very active children. She was involved in a serious accident three years ago. She had to undergo an emergent surgery to repair a right tibia and fibula fracture repair. The surgeon used two stainless steel bone plates plate and a stainless steal alloy intra-medulary rod to complete the repair. Amanda reported that her horrific pain in her leg never went away!
She went to back to the surgeon, who did the repair, multiple times, complaining of continued pain and she said he never seemed to take her pain seriously. Over the next couple of years she visited multiple doctors and even went to multiple hospitals seeking help. Amanda reported she was always treated like a drug seeker and NO healthcare provider had ever taken her pain or condition seriously.
She then found Orlando Pain Centers of Excellence online and made the drive of over 150 miles to see me. Upon inspection of her legs you could immediately see that she was having a serious issue in her right leg. She had these skin lesions and swelling seen in the photo below but no fever or pustules. I was able to get her pain under control and referred her to an orthopod to have the hardware taken out ASAP!
Amanda reported that as soon as she opened her eyes from anesthesia , while still in the recovery room, she could tell that her terrible pain was gone. She is now months out from her hardware removal surgery and doing great!

This is Amy. She was referred to me by a neurosurgeon to help control her severe pain . Her horrific pain was constantly shooting pain down her left leg. This pain had started years before and marked the beginning of the most difficult season of her life . One morning while still in bed she sneezed and experienced excruciating pain her her back and left leg. Unable to move, she called 911 and went to the hospital. There she underwent a hemillaminectomy and one level discectomy.. But immediately upon awakening from Anesthesia she discovered her left pain was even more intense than before her surgery! At that time, she was a single mother that had just moved to south Florida . She had very few financial resources and no family or friends to help her and a young child to provide for. She reported that she sought out a multitude of doctors to help her desperate situation but they only saw “a young pretty woman” that could not possibly be in so much pain. Most of them suggested more and more gabapentin.

This is Laterica. She was excited for me to post this in hopes of helping someone else. What a precious, warm, loving person she is. I had the pleasure of significantly helping Laterica eliminate most of her terrible chest wall pain.

She was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disorder that attacked her spinal cord. This left her paralyzed from T6 down, also left her with intense T6-T7 dermatomal neuritis affecting a circumferencial band of pain on her chest wall .

I used an ultra high frequency neuromodulation device high
on her spinal cord to deliver her excellent pain relief !

I love my job and I'm proud of the help that my team and I are able to successfully deliver to patients that need it so much!

I had the privilege of helping Sherri. Sherri had taken a severe fall and had damaged her sciatic nerve in her buttock. This injury had led to horrific pain and complete loss of her quality of life.. She could not walk any distance at all, she could not stand for more than a few minutes, she could not even lay down. She was in complete misery for over a year. She had sought help from multiple neurologist and neurosurgeons.
