🐾 Back-to-School Blues Aren’t Just for Kids! 🎒

The backpacks are packed, the kids are back in school, and the house is suddenly a whole lot quieter. While we’re settling into new routines, our dogs may be wondering where everybody went!

Changes in the family schedule can sometimes trigger separation anxiety in dogs. Excessive barking, destructive behavior, pacing, accidents in the house, or even following you everywhere when you’re home may be signs that your pup is having a hard time adjusting.

The good news? There are ways to help. ❤️

From MWAH to Aruba with Dr. J

Dr. J is heading to Aruba to volunteer with Animal Welfare Alliance Aruba, helping provide care for the island’s dogs and cats in need.

We would love your help sending her with some much-needed supplies!

We are currently collecting donations of new or gently used slip leads and slip collars to bring with her to Aruba. These simple supplies can make a big difference when caring for street dogs and pets belonging to families with limited resources.

Donations can be dropped off at Markham Woods Animal Hospital by SEPTEMBER 19TH BY 1PM before Dr. J’s trip!

Happy Tuesday, MWAH family! ❤️

We had another eventful day here at MWAH! One of our large, beautiful oak trees was struck by lightning and caught fire. ⚡🌳🔥

Thankfully, the Longwood Fire Department arrived quickly and was able to get the fire under control. We are incredibly grateful for their fast response and help keeping everyone safe.

We also want to say a big thank you to all of our clients for being so understanding and cooperative while we asked everyone to move their vehicles to safer spots and to park elsewhere upon arrival during the fire.

Because this is an older, very large tree, our biggest concern while it was burning was the possibility of it falling into the parking lot.

Unfortunately, the lightning caused significant damage, and the Longwood Fire Department advised us that the tree may now be unstable and could potentially fall without warning.

Out of an abundance of caution, we have blocked off the parking spaces closest to the tree with orange cones. Please do not park in the coned-off area, even if a space is available.

We have an arborist coming out as soon as possible to professionally assess the tree and determine the safest next steps.

Thank you again for your patience, cooperation, and understanding while we make sure MWAH remains safe for our clients, patients, and team. ❤️🐾

Before you grab the hose this summer, a few things worth knowing: 1) Always test the water first, a hose left in direct sunlight can get hot enough to burn. 2) Focus on the belly, chest and paws where blood vessels sit close to the surface. 3) Skip the back, especially on thick coated dogs, since wet fur in the sun can trap heat. 4) Towel off the excess water first, then let them finish air drying in the shade. Does your dog love a summer rinse? 🐾☀️
