Lonsdale Karate Dedicated to helping people better themselves through karate, kobudo, and aikido. We teach classical Okinawan Karate and Kobudo.

Tim has trained in Japan and is directly connected to Akamine Hiroshi Sensei, the President of the Karate and Kobudo associations to which the dojo belongs. Tim is the senior foreign Karateka in the Organization. He was also the first licensed Kobudo instructor for the Shimbukan system in the US. He is supported by several black belts, all with many years of experience. We have classes on Monday t

hrough Friday for Karate, and on Tuesday and Thursday for Kobudo and on Saturday for Aikido. Age 4-6 Karate M-W-F 4:30 to 5:15
Age 7-12 Karate M-F 5:15 to 6:15
Age 13-Adult Karate M-W-F 6:15 to 7:45

Kobudo Tuesday and Thursday for teens and adults from 6:15 to 8:00

Aikido Saturday 10:00 to 12:00

Tuition will remain at $25 per student per month per day attended. So if you attend two classes a week, then your tuition will be $50; if you attend three or more sessions, then it will be $75. Those attending karate, kobudo, and aikido could have up to 6 sessions weekly, capped at $75 per month. We serve the greater Lonsdale area including Webster, Vesseli, Montgomery, Kilkenny, Shieldsville, New Prague, Faribault, Elko, New Market, Faribault, Lakeville, and Burnsville. All are welcome to try a class for free with no obligation. We believe our quality will keep students coming back, so we do not use contracts to lock students in.

I have two thoughts on this. First, martial arts training has value precisely because it is hard. We learn and grow through accomplishing hard tasks. If it were too easy, it would have no value. Second, sometimes life gets in the way of training. That is ok. Many of us have had to change the intensity with which we trained or attended classes because of school, work projects, other pursuits that conflict for time, or family needs. Martial arts are supposed to enhance your life, not become a cult. If you had to take a break and want to get back, our doors will always be open to you. And, as an oh-by-the-way thought, this image shows a younger kid, but the same applies to older students. We love our adult students. Even if it has been 10, 20, 30, 40, or more years since you trained, you can always reengage. You might be surprised at how quickly the skills will come back.

As we get closer to the start of the school year you will see a number of commercial ads for places that offer classes, mostly targeted at parents of kids. Those ads will lay out a lot of good benefits that come from training. I agree with all the benefits as I have experienced them for over 40 years. What I will add is that parents should look into the qualifications of the instructors, the credibility of the system, and the transparency in costs. I have trained directly with the head of my the systems I teach, lived in Japan for 18 years, speak Japanese, and am a senior instructor in world-renowned systems. I also work month to month and never make you sign a contract. My max price is $75 per month for up to 6 days of training each week! We offer punch cards that allow for flexible attendance that never expire, don't require you to buy sparring equipment, or other equipment, and are transparent about testing costs with nothing being hidden. As always, everyone is welcome to try a class for free to see if Okinawan Shorinryu Karate is for them.
