this is a horrifying schedule and a set-up for failure for both patient and physician.

patients deserve better than be stuffed in 15 and 30 min time slots.

physicians deserve more humane working conditions.

endometriosis may run in families 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒👭

in a 1993 study of 563 women with endometriosis, endometriosis or adenomyosis was reported in 3.9% of their mothers and 4.8% of their sisters, versus under 1% in controls. the odds ratio was 7.2.

a 2010 study found 5.9% of first-degree relatives affected versus 3.0% in controls, a difference that was not statistically significant.

there appears to be a tendency for increased familial incidence of endometriosis

teens get endometriosis too 😞⚡

a 2020 systematic review of 19 studies looked at 1243 teens with pelvic pain

of 1011 who had laparoscopy, 648 (64%) were found to have endometriosis with prevalence ranging from 25-100%.

bladder symptoms like pain, frequency, and urgency are common in the setting of endometriosis

many patients experience being repeatedly tested for UTIs with negative cultures and/or being treated with antibiotics

pain doesn't always show up where the endometriosis lesions are.

in a study of women with chronic pelvic pain and biopsy-proven endometriosis, the authors note "neither lesions nor lesion characteristics were predictive of pain in the same anatomic locations."

this is a big no-no

yet, many patients are given estrogen only hormone therapy after hysterectomy

eshre guidelines specifically state that "clinicians should avoid prescribing oestrogen-only regimens for the treatment of vasomotor symptoms in postmenopausal women with a history of endometriosis, as these regimens may be associated with a higher risk of malignant transformation"
