Every year, we pull the same boxes from the attic. We string the lights, hang the wreaths, and try to make the house look exactly the way it used to.

But as we step back in the quiet of the evening to look at the glowing tree, we realize what we are truly trying to recreate. It isn't the perfect aesthetic or the meticulously wrapped presents. It's the profound, undeniable warmth of the days when our only job was to safely exist in a room surrounded by the people who made our world feel whole.

What is one feeling you wish you could bring back from your childhood holidays?

Do you remember what your house sounded like on Christmas when you were growing up?

It was the beautiful, chaotic symphony of the holidays. The clinking of dishes in the kitchen, the classic carols playing softly on the record player, and the unmistakable sound of your favorite people talking over one another. As the years go by and the living room grows a little quieter, we realize that the noise we once took for granted was actually the sound of pure love. We would trade every gift under the tree just to sit in that crowded, noisy room for one more evening.

Whose laugh do you miss the most during the holidays?

When we were young, our biggest worry was whether we’d get what we asked for on Christmas morning. But time changes everything.

The loud, crowded living rooms slowly become a little quieter. The older generations pass their traditions down, and the magic shifts from the shiny gifts we unwrap to the quiet, beautiful memories we hold tightly in our hearts. We realize that the most precious thing we ever had was simply the time we spent together in those rooms.

Do you remember the feeling of trying to stay awake on Christmas Eve?

The whole house would finally go quiet, and the only light left was the soft glow of the tree down the hallway. You would stare out your frosted bedroom window, searching the snowy sky, your heart completely full of that pure, innocent anticipation. We didn't realize it then, but that incredible feeling of boundless hope and belief was the most beautiful gift we would ever receive.

When you lose someone who made the holidays beautiful, Christmas is never quite the same.

The living room feels a little quieter, and the old traditions carry a gentle, lingering ache. But as we carefully hang their favorite ornaments and bake their recipes, we realize they haven't truly left us. The love they poured into those childhood Decembers became the magic that still lives inside our hearts today. They gave us the gift of beautiful memories, and that is something time can never take away.

How do you honor the memory of the people you miss most during the holidays?
