Hola a todos!! As life transitions happened in 2023, I took a year-long pause in my career and dedicated my time to raising my daughter-who I must say is a badass homie with an extra chromie and heart warrior. For her privacy I will keep her away from this page and dedicate the page to anything mental health, including parenthood, plus much more. A lot has happened, but I am happy to share that as life began to adjust itself after what seemed to be much chaos, I also started to transition back into the therapeutic world as a professional. As I go back into the work field, I would also like to bring this page back to life. Thank you to everyone who sent your good wishes last year, to those that stuck around, and I look forward to interacting with all of you once again-former,current, and new followers. -Emma

Continuing the conversation about su***de. Again, its a hard conversation to have, but the more we speak about it, the higher the chance that someone will feel comfortable to reach out and ask for help.

These are some common warning signs a person may present. It can be all, it can only be a few, that's why it is important to ask. As a therapist, this conversation is hard to have at times, especially with kiddos that are my niece's age. Most of the time, my kiddos don't have someone to talk to at home, so if I don't ask, nobody else will. Our number one priority is safety.

On the anniversary of such a tragic event in US history, please reach out to those in need. Call them, text them, visit them. Let them know they're not alone. 💜

You cant make a person suicidal by talking about su***de or showing that you care.

You actually give the person who is feeling suicidal the opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings, which can provide relief from loneliness and may prevent a su***de attempt.

It gets TIRING to hear how one's child will struggle to succeed. Whether they have a learning disability, developmental disability, speech impairment, among other challenges. We need to start giving hope that our children will succeed at their own capacity and at their own pace. Let's talk more about what they are capable of doing, and stop being such negative people. 🎤

It may be difficult to speak about su***de, but speaking about it helps us understand and learn more about how to support someone who is feeling suicidal. Su***de awareness also helps reduce the stigma that prevents someone from seeking help.

As I share my experience as a first time mom, I noticed that many people push towards breastfeeding. Yes, breastmilk contains additional nutrients for baby, but the pressure that's put on a new mom is unhealthy.

Some of us can easily produce milk, and there are also some of us that don't. Those that don't, can experience intrusive thoughts and guilt over not being a "good mom" simple because we can't breastfeed.

Not only are we dealing with labor trauma, hormone fluctuations, body dysmorphia, etc. Also having to deal with the continued judgement whether we breastfeed, don't breastfeed, give formula, and so forth, it adds to reasons why mother's may experience post-partum depression.

This is why I'm here telling you that
-it's okay to breastfeed
-it's okay to no breastfeed
-it's okay to do both breastmilk and formula
-it's okay if its just formula
-it's okay to use whatever brand of formula your child is taking well.

A doctor once told me "keep doing what youre doing as long as your baby is thriving and gaining weight".

🌼As I navigate my exposure to the disabled community, I learn more about the stigma and stereotypes regarding a person with a disability. One of the main things people are fixated on is thinking a "disabled person cannot have a "normal" life".

🌼However, they can live life just like anyone else, just need a little of extra help and support to get there. A person with a disability can thrive and succeed.

🌼As I continue to navigate this community, I will continue to share my experience not only as a mom but as a mental health professional.

🌼Please feel free to correct me and teach me about your own experience.

------------------------‐-----------------
