Inside nearly every cell of your body is an extraordinary instruction manual called DNA. This tiny double-helix molecule carries the genetic information that helps guide how your body grows, develops, and functions. DNA contains thousands of genes that provide instructions for making proteins, which support everything from your muscles and skin to your eyes and immune system. If stretched end to end, the DNA inside a single person's cells would extend an astonishing distance. It's incredible to think that the blueprint for your entire body is stored inside microscopic cells you can't even see.
